It got a bit hairy in both games, but the host Tri-City Lady Tornadoes volleyball team pulled off
a sweep of Petersburg Porta Tuesday night 25-18, 25-22.
In both games, T-C held good-sized leads before the Lady Jays rallied.
In Game 1, two markers from Kristi Price (an ace and Abby Hunt kill) started the contest, then
the visitors had their only lead of the game thanks to three straight points.
Hunt’s kill put Courtney Osborne on the line, and she rattled off three points, with Hunt ending
the first one with a block before two aces.
Three Hunt points (an ace and two Porta hitting miscues) and a Stephanie Watkins tally
helped the Lady Tornadoes (5-8) build a 13-7 lead.
Osborne made it 18-10 with two points; Hunt put away the first one with a kill, then she
assisted on Megan Bucci’s kill.
Porta got within 19-16 before an errant serve, then three points from Hunt (Kaitlyn Tarr and
Kenzie Johnson combined for a block before a hitting error and ace) and an ace from Watkins
helped T-C close out Game 1.
Porta led 1-0 in Game 2 before a huge Lady Tornado run put them up 16-5.
Price served an ace in her three-point run, then Osborne rattled off eight points in succession.
Hunt had blocks sandwiched around a Porta net violation, and after a Porta timeout, four
hitting errors and a Bucci kill helped extend the advantage to 13-2.
One tally from Hunt made it 16-5.
A three-point spurt, then a five-point run pulled the Lady Jays within 18-15.
A Watkins tip on Osborne’s serve put T-C up 21-17.
Hunt’s kill on Bucci’s serve stretched the bulge to 23-18.
Tarr closed out the match with a kill.
Hunt had eight kills and five blocks, while Tarr (six) and Bucci combined for 10 kills.
Osborne had nine assists and Watkins six.

Game 2.
T-C led 19-13 when Osborne suffered a knee injury, and the Lady Tornadoes struggled the
rest of the match.
