Lady Tornadoes get first home win

   Two days after suffering a gut-wrenching overtime loss to 8-2 Chrisman, the Tri-City Lady
Tornadoes girls basketball team Monday night picked up its first-ever home win with a 51-39
win over Calvary.
   Monday, T-C (4-6) raced to a 16-6 lead after eight minutes, then controlled the second period
with a 21-12 run. It was 49-31 after three quarters.
   Abby Hunt had 22 points and 11 rebounds in the win, and Ellie Krone chipped in 10 points,
four rebounds and five assists. Megan Bucci also dished out five assists and Kristi Price and
Kaitlyn Tarr both grabbed five rebounds, one less than Ally Hunt.
   Kenzie Johnson contributed six points off the bench, and Mackenzie Brunson dished out four
assists.

   Saturday, T-C battled tooth-and-nail with the Lady Cardinals from Edgar County.
Neither team led by more than four points in the first half, which ended 26-22 Chrisman.
   T-C was within four despite 17 turnovers, including a dozen in the first quarter.
The Lady Tornadoes never led in the third period, but got within 39-38 when Brunson banked in
a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer from about 28 feet out.
   Two free throws from Ally Hunt and a deuce from Bucci put T-C up 42-39.
   Price’s stickback at 4:40 left T-C up 44-41, but the Lady Cardinals scored five points in
succession to take the lead.
   Bucci’s steal and subsequent assist to Krone gave T-C the lead back at 47-46 with 3:06
remaining.
   Ally Hunt scored on a putback at 1:03 to once again give the Lady Tornadoes the lead, this
time at 49-48.
   Tarr made one free throw with 16.6 seconds left, and after Chrisman split two freebies at 9.2,
Price drained two charity tosses with seven seconds left to put T-C up 52-49.
   The Lady Cardinals’ Brooke White was fouled shooting a 3-pointer with 1.9 seconds left, and
she nailed all three freebies to send the game to overtime.
   With three starters on the bench after fouling out, T-C, which had two sophomores and three
freshmen on the floor for most of overtime, were outscored 13-2 in the extra session.
   Abby Hunt led the way with 16 points and nine rebounds (seven offensive), while Tarr added
12 points and 10 rebounds and Krone 10 points and six caroms.
   Price also grabbed six rebounds for the the Lady Tornadoes, who committed 33 turnovers
and were only 13-for-31 from the foul line (Chrisman made 24-for-37).
   T-C won the J-V game 30-27 as Watkins had 10 (seven rebounds), Brunson eight (six steals)
and Johnson six (nine rebounds).
