T-C girls whip Mt. Olive, edge Lutheran

The Tri-City Lady Tornadoes girls basketball team never trailed and won its home finale
Thursday night over Mt. Olive 47-35.
Kaitlyn Tarr led the offense with 14 points, and she had five rebounds.
Ellie Krone added 11 points and four steals, while Abby Hunt finished with nine points and a
dozen rebounds.
Ally Hunt grabbed 13 rebounds coming off the bench while contributing six points, and Kristi
Price chipped in six points and five assists. Megan Bucci, the only senior playing her last home
game, dished out eight assists.
The Tornadoes raced to a 7-2 lead in the first 53 seconds on their way to a 13-9 first period
lead.
Price’s bucket at the horn left T-C up 26-19 at the break.
The Lady Tornadoes scored the last five points of the third quarter (Bucci free throw, Tarr
stickback and Price deuce) to take a 35-23 lead heading into the final stanza.
T-C rattled off the first eight points of the fourth quarter to extend the lead by 20; the Lady
Wildcats made the margin more respectable with the last six points of the contest.
T-C committed 17 turnovers, 12 after halftime, but it forced 26.
The J-V girls routed Mt. Olive 62-22 after taking a 15-7 lead after one period.
The Lady Tornadoes led 27-12 at intermission and 44-19 heading into the final stanza.
Mackenzie Brunson pumped in 14 points while filling up the box score with six rebounds, four
assists and five steals.
Stephanie Watkins finished with 13 points and four assists, while Ally Hunt tallied 13 points
and seven rebounds. Katie Price scored 10 points, Nicole Henton (five rebounds) six, Courtney
Fleck four and Kenzie Johnson two.

On Saturday, the J-V (6-2) lost a 37-35 overtime heartbreaker to Springfield Lutheran
The Lady Tornadoes trailed 24-19 heading into the final period but outscored the Lady
Crusaders 10-5 to force overtime, with the assistance of two late Kenzie Johnson triples.
T-C was only 8-for-43 from the field but made 17 free throws (out of 32).
Johnson had 12 points and six rebounds, while Ally Hunt finished with nine points and 10
rebounds before fouling out in regulation.
Brunson had eight points before fouling out, and Watkins chipped in six.
The varsity, on the other hand, eked out a 40-39 win after outscoring the Lady Crusaders 13-9
in the fourth quarter.
T-C trailed 13-8, 22-20 and 29-27 at the quarter breaks.
Tarr scored on a putback with under a minute left for the game-winning tallies.
T-C missed two bonus free throw situations in the final minute, and Lutheran misfired on a
contested 3-pointer in the waning seconds.
Abby Hunt had 20 points and 12 boards, while Krone contributed nine points.
Kristi Price finished with six points and five rebounds, and Tarr had five points and seven
rebounds. Bucci dished out six assists.
