Bedolli elected new school board president; Moore resigns
Kay Bedolli will be the new Tri-City School Board president. Tuesday night at a special meeting, Bedolli was appointed president by a 4-3 vote. Her nomination was motioned by Rachel
Bennett-Paul and seconded by Mike Boggs. Bill Marvin was also nominated for the post, by Bobbie Moore and seconded by newly elected Travis Heck, who was seated earlier in the meeting
along with Karen Vetter. Bennett-Paul, Bedolli, Boggs and Vetter all voted for Bedolli, with Moore, Marvin and Heck voting for Marvin. Boggs was the lone nominee for vice president, and
Bennett-Paul was the only secretary nominee after Marvin declined a nomination. The board also acknowledged a retirement notice from bookkeeper Jan Weaver, effective at the end of the
year. Moore then resigned her position for personal reasons. Any prospective board members, who must live in Mechanicsburg Township, can send a letter of interest and resume to Bruno
by May 9. Interviews will be conducted after that and the new board member would be seated in time for the June 9 meeting.

Flanagan hired as T-C girls basketball coach
At a special Tri-City School Board meeting May 23, the board unanimously approved the hiring of Riverton graduate Devyn Flanagan as high school girls basketball coach. She was an
assistant under Stan Price last season. Price stepped down to become athletic director. The board also approved the co-op basketball arrangement with Sangamon Valley, which will
disband its own team and send its girls to Tri-City. The off-campus college classes for seniors, which was discussed at the last regular meeting earlier in May, was approved 7-0. The rest of
the meeting was closed session and dealt with teacher negotiations.  The board was also slated to meet Tuesday, also in closed session, for the same purpose, according to
Superintendent Dave Bruno.
Tentative two-year deal reached between board, union
There has been a tentative two-year deal reached between the Tri-City School Board and the Tri-City Education Association, Superintendent Dave Bruno told the Tri-City Register last week.
The deal, which includes a 3.65 percent raise in the first year and 2.9 percent in the second year, according to Bruno, will provide some cost certainty to the school district, especially
important in light of uncertain and shaky school funding. The insurance will remain the same as in the previous contract. Spring break in the 2012-13 school year (not this upcoming school
year) will be correlated with state testing dates and not worked around Easter, at the union request, noted Bruno. Spring break usually correlates around the Easter holiday. Though the
school board meets July 14, the union requested to wait until August to have a chance to ratify the new deal. Bruno said the board acceded to that request. The August school board meeting
is Aug. 11. Attempts to reach union representatives were unsuccessful. (From July 7, 2011 edition)
