Brunson named Tri-City and Illini Bank Student/Athlete of the Month
Tri-City and Illini Bank are honoring Griffin Brunson for Student/Athlete of the Month for the month of November. Griffin is a senior at Tri-City
who has a GPA of 4.238 on a 4.0 scale. He is ranked first in his class and is on the superior honor roll. Griffin is also an Illinois State Scholar and
a member of National Honor Society. Griffin is a great role model for other students. He is a member of DUI Taskforce, Student Council and he is
Class President. Griffin somehow manages to work as hard in athletics as he does at school. Griffin has been named a team captain on the soccer
and basketball team. He is one of the hardest workers on either team. Despite his smaller stature, Griffin is also one of the tougher players for Tri-
City. Griffin is a team player who always puts the interest of the team first. Griffin’s ability to handle the ball and distribute is a big key to the
team’s success this season. Griffin is also a member of the baseball team. Last year, Griffin was one of the hardest working players on the team.
He would always stay after practice to work on the fundamentals. He always did everything that you wanted him to do and never complained. He is
a great example of someone giving 110 percent. Griffin will be greatly missed next year as he will be attending Penn State. There is no doubt that
he will be as successful there as he has been here.
Davis-Carver earns awards from SEMO
Olivia Davis-Carver of Dawson, a Tri-City High School senior, has been awarded a Regional Achievement Award and
the Foundation Leadership Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State for the 2010-11 academic year.
The Regional Achievement Award is awarded to qualified applicants from regionally accredited high schools and
community colleges in designated counties in Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee. High school graduates
from these counties must complete the University’s college preparatory high school curriculum, score 21 or higher on
the ACT or 990 or higher on the SAT exams, and have a minimum 3.0 grade point average. High school students
receiving the award also must live in the University residence halls during the fall and spring semesters of their first
two years at Southeast. Awards will be made to the first 250 qualified new full-time students.
The Regional Achievement Award is also open to transfer students from community colleges in the designated
counties of the five-state region. Transfer students from community colleges must have completed a Southeast
articulated program of study with at least a 2.75 grade point average or have completed 24 transferable credit hours
with a 3.0 grade point average and must live in University residence halls during the fall and spring semester of their
first year at Southeast.
The award amount is equal to the difference between incidental fees (tuition) for Missouri residents (plus 10 percent)
and non-resident students.
The Foundation Leadership Award is a renewable award of $1000 to be applied toward residence hall fees and designed
for out-of-state students who have demonstrated leadership, scholarship and involvement. Students receiving the
scholarship must have achieved a 3.0 grade point average in high school.
Davis-Carver will be a 2010 graduate of Tri-City High School, and she is the daughter of Tami and Charlie Carver of

Schupp’s resignation accepted as HS/MS principal
Sunday at a special school board meeting, the Tri-City School Board of Education accepted the resignation of high school/middle school
principal Duane Schupp under unanimous consent. Schupp was in the first year of a three-year contract; he resigned Jan. 9. When asked if there
was a severance package, Superintendent Dave Bruno responded: “Due to the fact that the other questions are dealing with a personnel issue, I am
not a liberty to discuss them at this time.” Bruno will be interim principal for the time being, though he has been instructed to explore options,
which include looking for a retired administrator to fill the slot on a part-time basis for the rest of this school year.
“Next year, we will have a full-time principal,” said Bruno. (From Jan. 21, 2010 edition)
