Village of Williamsville launches Buy Local
campaign
The Village of Williamsville is taking steps to strengthen the development of its local economy. At a time
when people are considering every expenditure, the Village Board is asking residents to also think about
where and with whom they are spending their money.
The goal of the Buy Local campaign is to increase awareness about the personal, community and
economic benefits of choosing local business first. Steps toward encouraging the development of a vibrant
local economy include supporting both the retention and expansion of business in the area. Williamsville
hopes to promote business growth in its historic Downtown Business District as well as development
opportunities around the I-55 interchange.
The Buy Local campaign is just one initiative introduced by the Village Board that seeks to nurture the
community, inspire new entrepreneurs and attract new business and visitors. Village President Tom
Yokley adds, “This town has a deep history of entrepreneurialism. We live in a pleasant, appealing
environment. We are working on making it even more so, through other Village Beautification and
Downtown Revitalization efforts. We have reached out to existing business in the community. We don’t
want to lose any businesses that already operate here, and Williamsville is capable of supporting more
businesses. I want to do whatever I can to make that happen.”
Through a weekly article entitled “The Buy Local Lowdown” (published in the Sun-Times and on the
village Web site www.williamsville.illinois.gov), local businesses will be promoted. The weekly article
hopes to educate residents about how they can support the local economy and to learn more about
individual local businesses. Students involved in the Williamsville High School group IMPACT (www.
impact15.org), as well as students involved in the Business Society at Lincoln Christian University, will be
developing and writing the majority of these articles.
Village Trustee and Economic Development Chair Valerie Patterson explains, “We want residents to
make a concerted effort to buy gas in Williamsville – to learn about the goods and services available to
them, and consciously choose to spend their money locally.” She further notes that “by increasing their
orientation to purchasing locally, the Village benefits and residents contribute to their own increased quality
of life.”
Williamsville will be installing Buy Local banners throughout the Village in an effort to remind residents
to think local when making purchases. Besides the Village Web site at www.williamsville.illinois.gov,
information about Buy Local businesses will also be available at the Williamsville Public Library.

Buy Local – your purchase matters!
When you purchase gas and goods, professional services and meals in Williamsville, a portion of your
sales tax dollars go to help fund essential Village services such as:
Fire Protection
Law Enforcement
Emergency Medical Response
Parks and Recreation
Roadways
Storm and Sewer Drainage
Sidewalks and Curbs
Pedestrian and Bike Trails
In fact, sales tax revenue accounts for nearly 30 percent of the Village’s general fund. When you leave
town to buy, your sales tax revenue benefits another community. So the answer is simple…whenever
possible, make Williamsville your first choice!
