Parienti was really quite simple after the Lady Bullets
lost 2-0 to conference rival Rochester Friday at the
Class A state soccer tournament at Naperville’s North
Central College: if they had played the entire 80
minutes like they did the last 10-12. (

Bullets romp past Ponies
After spotting the host Kincaid Ponies an early score, the Williamsville Bullets football team roared back
with 42 unanswered points in a 42-14 thumping of the Ponies Friday in the season opener for both teams.
Josh Gentile threw for 118 yards and ran for 34, and Chase Alexander had 57 yards passing and 68
rushing for the Bullets, who were led in rushing by Earl Hollinshead’s 70 yards. WHS racked up 273
rushing yards in the contest and outgained the Ponies 448-311 overall and almost doubled them up in first
downs, 23-13. Brandon Donnelly caught three passes for 90 yards, including a 55-yard TD pass from
Gentile to open the second half scoring. John Gerding contributed 51 rushing yards and caught two
passes for 35 yards.
Gentile scored from the 1, and Nick Horton’s PAT knotted the score at 7. Horton then caught a 15-yard pass
from Gentile, and another Horton PAT made it 14-7 after one period.  The Bullets outscored the Ponies 21-
0 in the third quarter; besides Donnelly’s TD reception, Gentile scampered 30 yards for a score, then
Alexander did the same from 35 yards out. Gentile found Travis Combs on a 2-point conversion after
Gentile’s run, after the PAT failed on Donnelly’s TD. Alexander concluded the Bullets’ scoring with a 7-yard
run in the fourth stanza. Jeremy Bailey paced the defense with 13 tackles, and Combs added 10. Alex
Smith had eight stops and Phillip Mast had seven stops and two fumble recoveries. Troy Willis finished
with seven total tackles and picked off a pass, while Brad Selvaggio also recovered a fumble.

Thompson finishes in top 10 at Rochester Invite
Both the Riverton Lady Hawks and Williamsville Bullets had a top-10 finish Saturday at the Rochester
cross country invitational. The Lady Hawks’ Kaylyn Shaw finished in eighth place with a time of 20 minutes,
48 seconds, 59 seconds behind Porta’s Claire Brown. Trevor Thompson placed ninth on the boys side for
the Bullets, running the three miles in 17:08, 66 seconds behind winner Parker Thompson of Tremont. The
only other Hawk on the squad is freshman Brad Virgin, and he narrowly missed cracking the top 50, as his
time of 18:46 was 51st (and No. 50, Korey Endress of Tremont, also had the same time). Coach Jeff
Capps noted he was very pleased with both runners. Three other Bullet boys ran Saturday; Jonathan Moos
finished in 23rd place (17:55), while freshmen Austen Horn was 59th and Max Neal placed 100th. Coach
Bill Gastorf’s Lady Bullets had two competitors: Amy Pesch finished 66th and Jessica Miller took 96th. Both
teams will run again at the Porta Invite Sept. 13. Williamsville started its season last Tuesday at the
Carlinville Early Meet. Pesch finished 17th on the girls side. For the boys, Thompson placed ninth, Moos
17th, Horn 29th and Neal 54th.
Bullet soccer wins two
The Williamsville Bullets boys soccer team won all
three of its matches in the last week. Last Thursday, the
Bullets beat Macon Meridian 3-1. The Hawks scored in
the first 20 seconds, then the Bullets answered less than
a minute later. Williamsville then made it 2-1 in the third
minute. Greg Harpring scored unassisted from 40 yards
out, then he scored again with Jakob Kristensen
providing the helper. Dylan Woods also found the back of
the net, with Matt Osman assisting. For much of the
second half, the Bullets had four sophomores and a
freshman on the field because of injuries. WHS outshot
the Hawks 7-2; Drew Lazar got the win in goal. Saturday,
the Bullets blanked the Gillespie Miners 6-0, with three
goals in each half. Aaron Gantt scored twice, with
Harpring assisting on one of those markers. Woods
scored, from Zach Mierzejewski, and Gantt also assisted
on one of Kristensen’s two goals. Bricklin Welch also
scored.Tuesday, the Bullets overcame a sluggish first
half to edge Heyworth 2-1. All three goals, including
unassisted tallies from Kristensen and Welch, came
after halftime. The Bullets outshot the Hornets 6-1.
Tuesday the Bullets scored both goals after halftime in a
2-0 win over Lutheran. Gantt assisted on Woods’ goal,
and Kristensen scored unassisted. Lazar made eight
saves in goal to get the win.
