By Linda Hughes

Sunday was the Williamsville
4th of July celebration at Samuel
Jones Park. Included in the
festivities was a car show,
dodgeball tournament and a
dunk tank, sponsored by the
North County Teen Court.
Williamsville Mayor Bill McCarty
was one of the lucky ones to sit
in the dunk tank. He trash-talked
some of the people who were
throwing at him, but many times
he was on the short end of the
stick, including here when
Williamsville resident Ayreanna
Crowder helped him find his
way to the water.

Piasa edges past Lady
Bullets a second time
By Byron Painter

Williamsville softball coach Jane Grebner did not
want to get beat by any of the “best” hitters of the Piasa
Southwestern Lady Birds, but it was the No. 9 hitter
that helped doom the Lady Bullets in a frustrating 2-1
sectional final loss in the Class 2A Illinois High
School Association White Hall North Greene
Sectional. (more)
Patterson medals for
Bullets at State Track
Meet
EIU recruit Jordan Patterson finished in ninth place in
the 3200 meters Saturday at the Class A state track
meet at Charleston’s Eastern Illinois University. Of the
other Riverton or Williamsville competitors, only the
Hawks’ Justin Roberts was able to advance out of the
preliminaries. Roberts qualified in both the shot put
and discus, and he advanced to the finals in the
discus, where he ultimately finished in 10th place
(missing out on a medal by one spot and 16 inches).
Williamsville’s John Gerding was unable to advance
to the finals in the 100 or 200, while Jonathan Moos
was .63 of a second away from qualifying in the 400.
The Bullets’ Matt Rehan finished sixth in his flight in
the discus.

The Springfield Road Runner's Club recently
named Jordan Patterson the winner of their
annual $500 scholarship. Jordan recently
graduated from Williamsville High School and
was an all-state runner in both cross country
and track. He is attending Eastern Illinois
University in the fall on a cross country/track
scholarship. Presenting the scholarship to
Patterson is Barb Bonansinga, president of
the club.
The winner of the Williamsville Pinto Baseball

game with a score of 11-9. The Pinto league

Illini Bank offering low-interest loans to Sherman
flood victims
By Byron Painter
Editor
Illini Bank in Sherman is going to offer low-interest loans to Sherman residents recently affected by flooding.
Sherman did not qualify for federal assistance because there was not substantial enough damage, according to
village president Trevor Clatfelter. “But I am very pleased to report that Illini Bank has enthusiastically agreed to
participate and assist our village and its citizens who choose to replace the damage done to their homes,” said
Clatfelter. “We are very thankful to Illini Bank for stepping up to help out our affected homeowners during their
time of need.
“It is another example of our community coming together in a time of crisis.” Steve Paden of Illini Bank said that
the offer is another example of his bank’s commitment to the area. “We want to help out our citizens any way we
can,” he said. The bank is going “outside of normal policy” to help out affected Sherman residents, he added.
