Liquor ordinance amended by Village Board
By Linda Hughes
An ordinance amending the liquor ordinance got approval from the Williamsville Village Board during a
special meeting Tuesday. The amended ordinance says that anyone who holds a liquor license must
have at least 60 percent of its sales in food over a period of time. It sets out the punishment for violations.
Trustees also passed an ordinance seeking demolition of a dangerous and unsafe building. The
building is a house at the corner of Pine and Jones streets. Passage of the ordinance gives village
attorney Randy Segatto the go-ahead to begin the condemnation process.
The board has discussed the house during several meetings. Michael Johnson owns the house.
Trustee Norval Melton said last month that Johnson told him he was making repairs, but that the front
porch was still dilapidated. Trustees earlier gave Johnson until the end of April before starting court
action.
It was suggested that a stop sign at Conray and Vine streets be removed.
Several visitors said they want the sign to stay, because children walk the street to go to school and
there are many children in the neighborhood. The sign slows down traffic.
Mayor Bill McCarty said 20 applications for an entry-level public works position were received, and that
Director of Public Works Kent Thompson went through them. A special board meeting will be set for
interviews.
A visitor, Tom Yokley, said he would volunteer his services and water to help plant flowers along Main
Street, but he wants the help of someone with expertise. He said that when the village had flowers along
Main Street before, people would comment about how pretty the village is. (From May 29, 2008 edition)

North County Teen Court uses different tack for
offenders
By Byron Painter

The Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees a defendant the right to a speedy trial
with an impartial jury. It just does not say how old that jury has to be. The North County Teen Court, which
covers Buffalo, Dawson, Mechanicsburg, Riverton, Sherman, Spaulding and Williamsville, has for almost
three years been hearing cases while helping to alleviate the already overcrowded county juvenile court
system. (more)
