Bullets cruise to win
at Pawnee
The Williamsville Bullets boys and girls track
teams won quadrangulars last Thursday at
Pawnee; the meet also included Riverton and
Girard. (

Freshman Kate Blissett found the back of the
net after a wild scramble with just over five
minutes to play, and the host Riverton Lady
Hawks soccer team eked out a spirited 1-0 win
over Williamsville Monday afternoon. (

Bullets win home quad
Both the Williamsville boys and girls track teams
earned quadrangular wins last Thursday.
The boys won with 103.5 points, more than doubling
up second place Mt. Olive’s 50.
On the girls side, the Lady Bullets squeaked past Mt.
Olive 83-74.
For the boys, Matt Rehan took second and Casey
Constant fifth in the shot put, while Adam Balder
took second in the pole vault.
Keith Williams placed second in the discus, with
Rehan third.
Corey Moynahan finished fourth in the high jump.
The Bullets won the 3200 relay, with Trevor
Thompson, Dustin Davenport, Zach Mierzejewski
and Jonathan Moos.
Aaron Felix, Earl Hollinshead, Constant and John
Gerding combined to win the 400 relay, and
Patterson won the 3200.
Jon Kent earned top billing in the 110 hurdles.
In the 100, Gerding placed second and Troy Willis
third.
Patterson also won the 800, with Mierzejewski third.
The Bullets were second in the 800 relay.
Moos won the 400, with Jordan Saner right behind in
second.
Kent earned top honors in the 300 hurdles, and
Thompson matched that in the 1600, with Davenport
right behind in second.
Gerding and Felix went 1-2 in the 200.
In the 1600 relay, Kent, Hollinshead, Moynahan and
Moos finished in first place.
For the girls, Kelsie Coonrod finished second in the
high jump, and Jessica Fager matched that in the
long jump.
Grace Manning won the shot put, with Caroline
Williams third.
The Lady Bullets won the 400 (with Aubrey
Henderson, Williams, Coonrod and Fager).
Manning and Williams went 2-3 in the discus.
Taylor David was second in the 100 hurdles, with
Fager third.
Bridget Curren won the 800, with Ashley Martin right
behind in second.
Henderson, Tori Alexander, Mason and Maddie
Brown combined to win the 800 relay.
Coonrod was second in the 400, and David and
Mason went 2-3 in the 300 hurdles.
Curren finished second and Amanda Doll fourth in
the 1600.
Fager was second in the 200, and Alexander placed
third.

Lady Bullets slip past Warrensburg
Karli McGrath scored twice in the second half as the host
Williamsville Lady Bullets soccer team eked out a 2-1 win over
Warrensburg-Latham Monday in windy and brisk conditions.
Presley Kerber assisted on one of the goals for the Lady Bullets;
the other tally was unassisted.
Warrensburg was outshot 10-4, and WHS keeper Kara Doty
made three saves.
Last Thursday, the Lady Bullets tied Monticello 1-1.  Both goals
came in the second half, with Kerber scoring from Megan
Schutzbach.The Lady Bullets outshot the Sages 12-2.
On Saturday, Sami Dees scored off a Kerber assist as the Lady
Bullets snuck past host Carlinville 1-0.  Doty once again made
three saves in goal to get the win.  The Lady Bullets were 10-4-1
going into a scheduled Wednesday match at Springfield
Southeast.
WHS grad Starwalt wins again for Millikin
The Big Blue track team hosted the Don Luy Invitational on April 15 with nine athletes moving up in the all-
time lists with one school record in their respective events.
On the women’s side, the 400 hurdles saw two Top 10 finishes – freshman Bridgette Starwalt (Sherman,
Williamsville) won the event in 1:11.59 to move into No. 6 all-time and freshman Jacque Hall finished
second overall in 1:11.88 to move into No. 7 all-time.
In the field events, junior Allison May broke her own record in the hammer throw, winning the event with a
new Millikin record throw of 143-8 and freshman Tracy Olson (Argenta, Argenta-Oreana) moved into No. 4
all-time in the shot put with a toss of 38-9 3/4 to finish second. On April 26, Millikin competed in the SIUE
Twilight Open.
Starwalt  took over four seconds off her personal best in the 400 hurdles to claim the No. 5 spot on the all-
time list with a 10th place finish in 1:07.78.
Williams named
Student of the Month
Williamsville High School is pleased to
announce that senior Caroline Williams has
been selected as the April Student of the
Month.  Caroline was selected by the senior
class sponsors on the basis of academic
performance, extracurricular participation and
personal traits.  Caroline will receive a $100
savings bond from the Williamsville State
Bank and will also be eligible for Student of
the Year.
Caroline is fourth in her class with a GPA of
4.845.  She is consistently on the high honor
roll.  She is a member of the WHS chapter of
the National Honor Society and is an Illinois
State Scholar.  
She’s also been accepted into Who’s Who
Among American High School Students, as
well as chapters for Leadership, All American
Scholars and English.
Caroline is a representative of the Lady
Bullets’ Volleyball, Basketball and Track and
Field teams.  Caroline has received
numerous basketball awards, such as being
nominated for the All State Fourth Team,
Sangamo Conference First Team, All Area
Third Team, Sangamon County All
Tournament Team and Prairie State
Conference First Team.  
In addition to sports, Caroline has also
participated in WHS Drama productions,
Madrigals, Yearbook, Band, Choir and SAVE.
She has proven her leadership skills after
being elected President of her class during all
four years at WHS.  
She is also currently serving as President of
Student Council and Vice President of
Madrigals.  
Caroline has volunteered many service hours
for organizations such as the United Cerebral
Palsy, the Williamsville Vocal Music Boosters,
Big Brothers Big Sisters and Contact
Ministries.  She has also served as a camp
counselor at Bee Bee Basketball camp.  She
has done a great job of maintaining a full
schedule of academics, athletics,
extracurriculars and a part-time job.
Caroline plans to attend college at Southern
Illinois University at Edwardsville, majoring in
Engineering.

Mergen named Student of
the Month
Williamsville High School is pleased to announce that
senior Maggie Mergen has been selected as the May
Student of the Month.  Maggie was selected by the
senior class sponsors on the basis of academic
performance, extracurricular participation and
personal traits.                  
Maggie will receive a $100 savings bond from the
Williamsville State Bank and will also be eligible for
Student of the Year.
Maggie is fifth in her class with a GPA of 4.85.  She is
consistently on the high honor roll.  She is a member
of the WHS chapter of the National Honor Society.  She
is a member and vice president of the WHS SAVE
chapter, which promotes non-violent and anti-drug
activities.  She has also served as a lobbyist and
legislator in the Youth and Government program.
While at WHS, Maggie is a representative of the Lady
Bullets’ Volleyball team.  Maggie received numerous
awards such as Sangamo County All Conference First
Team, Prairie State Conference First Team and the
Tournament All Team Award, which honors top
volleyball players in various local tournaments.  She
has also used her volleyball skills to help in the WJHS
volleyball program as a coaching assistant.
Maggie has volunteered as a juror for the Teen Court
program.  The Teen Court program gives teenagers
who have gotten in trouble an alternative to going to
court.  Students volunteer to judge their actions and
decide their consequences.
Maggie plans to attend college and further her
volleyball career at Villanova, majoring in International
Business.

School board votes to
close middle school
building for next year

  With the old Williamsville Middle School barely being
used this year, the school board on Mo
nday voted
unanimously to close the building for one year and
move the Pre-K and early  childhood classes to
Sherman Elementary. (

Eastern Illinois University, where Fowler
finished first in Headline Writing.
