Sherman Elementary to offer Transitional Kindergarten
Sherman Elementary will offer a Transitional Kindergarten class in the Fall of 2011. The purpose of TK is to give a child an additional year to
develop skills that will allow them to be successful and confident in kindergarten. Students must be kindergarten entry age eligible (5 years
old by Sept. 1, 2011). They will attend school all day. They will also attend music, library and physical education classes like the other
kindergarten rooms. Many children might be old enough to start kindergarten, but due to late summer birthdays and/or if parents feel the
need to allow time for their child to obtain further development before beginning kindergarten, Williamsville Schools will be offering parents
the option to place their child in the Transitional Kindergarten Program. For more information regarding TK, please be sure to attend the
kindergarten pre-registration/orientation March 28 at 6 p.m. in the Sherman Elementary Cafeteria.

Sherman board discusses Nixle changes, renames Corvette Drive
By Byron Painter
At Tuesday night’s regular meeting, the Sherman Village Board, on the recommendation of the Zoning Commission, approved the addition of two more storage buildings for
Sherman Mini-Storage, owned by Raymond and Carol Poe. No objections were raised, according to Mayor Trevor Clatfelter. The board renamed Corvette Drive to Illini Boulevard
in honor of Illini Bank. Village Engineer Dave Booher noted in his report that the bid letting for Safe Routes to School will be April 29. There was an animal control citation
hearing; the defendant was in attendance, though the complainant was not. The board decided, because of a lack of evidence, to stay the fine, though since it was a second
violation, the dog owner, who admitted his dog has gotten out before, was warned about future violations. Emergency Management Director Mike Moos reported on Nixle
changes; the company, which received Department of Justice funding as seed money, now plans to start charging its customers. There is a limited free availability with them,
but only 117 characters are allowed per message, even shorter than a text message and much shorter than using Facebook for such announcements (Facebook allows
almost four times as many characters). Cost for the first year would be $1400, and $3000 per year after that. Clatfelter and the board will examine other options, including e-Lert,
which uses more social media than Nixle. (From April 21, 2011 edition)

recipient and an Illinois State Scholar. She has also been recognized by the Susan Cook House Student of the Month program as a semifinalist for Student of the Year. While at
WHS, Amy has participated in 11 seasons of athletics, including cross country, basketball, softball and track for the Lady Bullets. She earned Captain honors for both the cross
country and basketball teams. She was named MVP for cross country and was voted the Spirit Award by her teammates for both basketball and softball. The State Journal-
Register recently recognized Amy as a Scholar-Athlete of the Week. She has also participated in YMCA Youth and Government as a lobbyist and a legislator, vocal music and
the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Amy has volunteered her time as a youth swim coach and FCA Huddle Leader and has helped with the SES summer school program,

Association, WHS Sports Boosters and WHS Community Food and Teen Gift Drive. Amy will attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a James Scholars
designee, majoring in Kinesiology/Physical Education Teaching. She hopes to obtain an additional teaching certification in Health, sixth-eighth grade mathematics or English
as a Second Language. Congratulations to Amy and her parents, Danny and Barb of Sherman!
