Fire Board to have four new trustees
Change will be coming to the Rochester Fire Protection Board and Village Board after voters went to the
polls in Tuesday’s consolidated election.
For the first time, Rochester voters elected trustees to the Fire Board and the results will see four
newcomers on the new board.
With ten candidates running for five open board positions, Joe Suerdieck received the most votes with
795, followed by Tim Cravens (656), Teresa Sturdy (627), Andrew Beck (610) and William G. Riggs (587).
Mike Broglin was sixth with 519 votes, followed by Robert Chiles (515), Henry Patterson (493), Donald Wulf
(489) and Mike Keafer (449).
Of the four current members of the fire board running in the election, only Cravens got the nod from the
voters while Wulf, Keafer and Patterson did not.
In the contested election for village board, five candidates were up for three positions. Incumbents
Maribeth Eandi (438 votes) and John Shoudel (435) were elected along with newcomer Matthew Greer
(340). Incumbent Wayne Liken was fourth with 322 votes, and Chris McClure was fifth with 233.
The Rochester Public Library Board had five candidates vying for four positions. The top vote-getters, in
an extremely close election, were Susan Young (775), Shannon Ryan (749), Margaret Patterson (747) and
Tim Olmsted (705), with Audrey Mock fifth with 633 votes. Cheryl Soerensen won the uncontested trustee
position on the library board with 994 votes.
The election for school board had four candidates running for four open positions. Re-elected were
incumbents Randy Hawkins (1,598 votes), Jim Hagerman (1,588), Tom Wise (1,584) and Dennis File
(1,552).
Despite having several contested elections this time, voter turnout was still rather low, with Rochester
showing a 28.15 percent turnout. Note that all votes are not final until canvassing is completed.
