Village board holds routine meeting Monday
By Greta Myers
The Rochester village board approved two recommendations made by the Zoning Board for fence
variances; one at 323 Cumberland Drive and the other at 9 Gilson Drive during its April 11 meeting. The
board also accepted the Zoning Board’s recommendation to deny a variance request that would allow
billboard construction on a property on Route 29. Currently, Rochester’s zoning code does not permit
billboards. village president Dave Armstrong told the landowner, Larry Bielfeldt, after doing some research,
he and the Economic Development Committee would meet with Bielfeldt, to discuss options in a couple of
months.
In the sewer report, trustee Joe Hill said that a Village View Public Information meeting will be held
Thursday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. The village engineer will explain plans to work on the neighborhood.
Hill also said that he is working with the village engineer seeking a grant to work on the village’s pump
station, which has flooded twice. He added that they are hoping to replace the aging electronic control
system.
Trustee Maribeth Eandi said she was collecting information for the Motor Fuel Tax program to see how
much it will cost to repair the village’s streets, in her monthly report.
In the water report, trustee Harry Hendrickson said that a loss of water pressure that some residents
experienced last week was caused by work done by CWLP switching out valves. CWLP’s work was finished
last Tuesday.
Hendrickson also said that plans are in the works to paint the Rochester water tower this year. The
water committee will consider parties interested in painting different designs on the tower, as long as it is
not commercial.
Trustee John Shoudel said that the village police’s new website is up and running at rochesterilpolice.
com.
In the public health report, Trustee Mike Greer thanked the Public Works department for the mowing and
grounds work done around the Village Park. Greer said that teams interested in reserving a ball field should
contact him or call the village office at 498-7192.
In new business, Rochester Community Citizens Corp Council by-laws were drafted by village attorney
Mark Cullen. Village manager Dale Laningham said that the by-laws will set up an operating structure for
the council.
The board approved Ordinance 11-06, which pertains to the village’s part-time police officers.
Rochester Police Chief Bill Marass said the ordinance was,"to cover state requirement but shouldn’t really
change anything.”
Announcements - The board approved Armstrong's nomination of Matt Hart to replace Emma Van Dyke
on the Zoning Board of Appeals.
New village trustee Matt Greer will begin serving his tenure next month. A portion of Sattley Street will be
closed on Saturday, May 7, from 5 p.m. to dark (approximately 8:30 p.m.) to allow for a block party. The
Public Works department will put up barricades for the event.
