Numerous RHS students named Illinois College Heritage Scholars
  Illinois College has announced several Riverton High School students have been selected as a Heritage Scholar.
  This year’s Heritage Scholarship is valued at a minimum of $13,000 annually.
  In addition to the scholarship, the honorees receive a $500 credit to be used at the Illinois College Bookstore for academic purposes.
  Those earning a Heritage Scholarship are Leah Fortner, the daughter of Sheree Bailey; Matthew Jagodzinski, the son of Ron and Barb Jagodzinski; Lindsey Moore, the
daughter of Kelly and Darla Moore; Leanna Pantier, the daughter of Tom and Melissa Pantier; Hana Thixton, the daughter of Jerry and Song Thixton; and Claire Watson, the
daughter of James and Anne Watson.
  Fortner is a member of the Madrigals, actively participates in Teen Court and is a member of the Art Club.
  Jagodzinski is a member of the baseball and soccer teams, and also a member of the National Honor Society.
  Moore is president of Teens Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse, a member of the National Honor Society and a member of the Spanish Club.
  Pantier is a member of the choir, the Scholastic Bowl team and the National Honor Society.
  Thixton is president of Art Club, a teen court advisor and a member of the National Honor Society.
  Watson was captain of the volleyball team, is captain of the dance team and president of the Spanish Club.
  This year’s Heritage Scholars boast an average ACT of 27, an academic GPA of 3.80 and average class rank of 93 percent.
  “Illinois College appreciates our long-standing partnership with Central Illinois and the strong heritage this area brings to the history of the nation and the College,” explained
Stephanie Elpers, Illinois College Vice President for Enrollment. She continued, “Illinois College maintains our 180-year commitment to educating students of promise with the
Heritage Scholarship Program. We are proud to celebrate the best and brightest from the surrounding 38 counties as Illinois College Heritage Scholars.”   
  To be considered for the scholarship, students must have been nominated by their high school guidance counselor, high school principal or school superintendent. In
addition, the students were required to meet two of the following three criteria: rank in the top 10 percent of their high school graduating class, have a core academic grade point
average of 3.5 or higher on a 4-point scale or have an ACT composite score of 25 or higher.
  Students who attend and will graduate from high school in the spring of 2012 will be eligible for this award during the next academic year. The counties included in the
program include Adams, Bond, Brown, Calhoun, Cass, Champaign, Christian, Clinton, DeWitt, Fayette, Fulton, Greene, Hancock, Henderson, Jersey, Knox, Logan, McDonough,
McLean, Macon, Macoupin, Madison, Mason, Menard, Monroe, Montgomery, Morgan, Moultrie, Peoria, Piatt, Pike, Sangamon, Schuyler, Scott, Shelby, St. Clair, Tazewell and
Warren.
