Riverton road projects finalized for 2010
Last year, President Obama announced the stimulus package with funding to support road projects.  Based on the criteria of the stimulus package, the only street in the
Riverton area that qualified was 3rd Street from Rt. 36 to Rt. 54.  Riverton submitted a request for funding and it was not approved for the federal stimulus money.
When the village did not receive the federal money, State Senator Bill Brady submitted the 3rd Street overlay project to IDOT for a state grant.  In August 2009, Senator Brady’s
office notified the Villages of Riverton and Spaulding that IDOT approved a $500,000 grant to overlay 3rd Street from Rt. 36 to Rt. 54.  Since that notification, both Villages have
worked together with the engineers to finalize the plans and documentation for bids.  At the Village Board meeting on March 15, out of the three bidders, P.H. Broughton was
selected as the contractor for the project.  There will be extensive work on 3rd Street from now until the overlay project is completed.  There will be lane closures and, in some
cases, road closures to accommodate the road work.  Here is a timeline for the work:
Now until late April – The Village will be replacing gas valves, water valves and culverts.  In addition, the Village will be working on ditches.
Late April/early May – The contractor will start the project.  Initially, the contractor will complete patch work, then they will mill the road and finally overlay the road.
Weather permitting, the project should be complete by late June or early July.
In addition to the 3rd Street overlay project, the Village of Riverton has identified the roads that will be oil/chip this year using the motor fuel monies that the Village receives.
The oil/chip projects will be completed in the August/September timeframe.  Below is the list of roads for this year:
