Riverton, Spaulding awarded transportation planning micro-grants
The Springfield-Sangamon County Regional Planning Commission (SSCRPC) and the Springfield Area Transportation Study (SATS) announce the awarding of three
competitive transportation planning grants under a pilot program for communities in Sangamon County with populations of less than 10,000. A Request for Applications was
sent to communities Oct. 18, with a Nov. 30 submittal deadline.
The grants and projects awarded are:
Village of Riverton — Prepare a pavement preservation plan for Lincoln Street, Washington Street, 3rd Street and 7th Street. $5,000
Village of Spaulding — Prepare a pavement preservation plan for village roadways. $5,000
Village of Curran — Prepare a pavement preservation plan for village roadways and collect traffic volume and vehicle class data for Moffet Street to be used for future
planning along this corridor. $5,000
This is the first time the SSCRPC and SATS have pooled resources to offer grants to communities in the county. The micro-grant program was set up to offer the opportunity
for community-specific planning to be undertaken for research, data collection, future needs projections or creation of small-scale plans related to local transportation
considerations. The grants are unique to the needs of each community. If the pilot program is successful and future funds are available, the program could be continued into
following years.
