Riverton village, school board races feature close finishes
The Riverton School and Village Board races had some razor-thin finishes Tuesday night as voters expressed their opinions.
With a total of 28.15 percent of voters casting ballots countywide (38,938 of 138,332), the Riverton Village Board had only 29 votes separating the five candidates.
The three voted in were incumbent Dave Charles, who garnered 256 votes, Kurt Spradlin (244) and incumbent Joe Bartley (234). Both Jim Cleaver (228) and Chuck Stone
(227) came up a few votes shy.
In the school board race, Jason Pals was easily elected with 774 votes. Incumbent Mike Klebe received 599 votes, and incumbent Paul Nonneman, first elected in 1995,
squeaked past Chantal Bertolino Curry by just three votes (499-496). There were 629 under votes cast.
In Spaulding, Brian Cuffle will be the new mayor; he ran unopposed, as did Jean Hillyer for Clerk and Amy Cunningham, Mary Ann Burge and Bill Hinkle for four-year trustee
terms and Dan Sexton for a two-year unexpired term.
For the Riverton Library Board, Arlene Matthews, Jean Forness, Jennifer Chaney and Brenda Kelley all were elected after being unopposed.
Dominic Vespa (623) and Nick McCarthy (408) were elected to six-year terms on the Riverton Area Fire Protection District, ahead of Dave Buck (266) and Gayla Mueller (188).
All vote tallies are unofficial until certified by the canvassing board. Results posted election night do not include provisional ballots and may not include all absentee ballots
cast by mail. Provisional ballots determined to be valid will be counted and added to the election results within 14 calendar days after the date of the election. Valid absentee
ballots submitted by mail, if postmarked or dated on or before 11:59 p.m. the day immediately preceding the election but received within 14 calendar days after the election, will
be counted and added to the election results.
