Curry’s moving in next month, IGA parking lot to be resurfaced

Curry’s Family Pharmacy will be moving in less than a month from its current location.
It will go from one side of Kent’s IGA to the other, taking the old Dollar General location, which will about double its space, according to co-owner Nancy Curry.
Curry’s must be out of its current store by September 1.
One addition planned for the new store is a soda fountain, according to Curry.
Curry’s plans to spread out its merchandise a bit more, and it plans to add a digital photo kiosk.
There will be additional office space, so co-owner Tom Curry will have ‘his own little office’ on the floor, including an area for consultations and immunizations, something not
readily available at the current location.
Meanwhile, construction at Kent’s IGA continues, noted Craig Kent of Kent Family Stores.
The store “has opened up” with the move of the office to where the charcoal, cat food and donuts were, said Kent; carts have been moved outside to an enclosed porch area that
also encompasses the current Curry location and Family Video.
Some of the current sale items have been moved to the old office area as customers enter the store.
The new overhang porch outside makes it easier for local organizations to hold fundraisers as well, noted Kent, who said the company will benefit with lower heating/air
conditioning costs.
There will be some more work done inside in the coming months, including some tile work on the floors and a new floor in the front end. There are also plans to replace the
produce and beer cases, so all the refrigeration units in the store will be less than five years old.
But Kent wanted to emphasize something else: the parking lot will be repaved very soon, likely within a couple of weeks if the weather cooperates.
After the outside brick work is done on the new Curry’s location, the repaving project will begin, said Kent.
The parking lot was going to be repaved soon anyway, he added, but with the inclement weather of the last few months (five patch jobs for potholes just since January, he said),
the project has taken on a greater importance.
“It was something we were planning on doing anyway,” he said.
Kent said nothing is “concrete” regarding what may go into the old Curry’s location.
