Martin arrested for burglary
Titus P. Martin, 22, of Riverton, was arrested earlier this month on several counts, including residential burglary, possession of burglary tools and criminal damage to property.
Among the stolen items recovered were multiple electronics, including cameras, computers, a video game system and a 42-inch television.
The Riverton Police Department received a call late Jan. 14 about a burglary to a residence on East Madison.
The suspect entered the residence through a back door, and there was a presence of tool marks on the door frame and wood door.
The officer on the case, Officer Jennifer Hegwood, noticed “a mud path was visible between the deck and the garage,” as the police report stated. The footprints appeared to go
back and forth between the residences.
Officer Hegwood notified the department and another officer, Deputy Powell, was dispatched. They went to the neighbor’s residence, where Martin was. Martin’s mother agreed
to sign a search consent form.
The officers confronted him about the alleged stolen property, much of which was visible; he claimed that the items purported to be stolen were his, but he was placed under
arrest at approximately 5 a.m. Jan. 15.
The shoes that Martin was wearing appeared to have the same pattern as the footprints on the floor at the other residence.
Martin claimed he did not know how the stolen property ended up in their shed.
Martin was also arrested for another count of residential burglary of a Third Street address in Riverton, where he was alleged to have taken power tools, a stereo, video
accessories, auto parts and accessories, jewelry and a disk.
The house in question was previously the victim of a house fire, and the victim told Officer Brent Sutton that she came home to gather some things to take with her.
When she arrived open, she saw the door jarred open and noticed that some items were out of place and other items had been taken.
