Police Report: (Chief Kenny Metcalf): Hectic month with another rash of car burglaries that erupted in the Spaulding/Riverton area. Added extra patrol including myself working
late into the early morning hours, in an attempt to catch the subjects. Officer Hillyer while backing up Riverton PD on the 27th and was fortunate enough to catch the subject
involved after being involved in a foot chase and tackling the subject and placing him under arrest. In Riverton that night the subject had broken into 30 cars and two residences.
He was charged with nine counts of burglary to vehicle, two counts of residential burglary and several counts of criminal trespassing for the cars he had broken into, but not
stolen anything. Along with this arrest, the Sheriff’s office arrested a male subject who is a resident of Spaulding and one of our suspects on possession of stolen property on
Schneider Street as this subject had gone back to a house previously burgled and attempted to sell some stolen items to the victim. I was in phone contact with the deputy and
will be following up with the detective who gets the case. We also had a residential burglary on Lake View Lane where several thousand dollars in jewelry were stolen. Within 48
hours of us being notified and taking this report, we had the suspect in custody and charged with the burglary. I and Officer Hillyer put in several hours in a short time with this
investigation, but yielded a solid arrest and I believe a very happy Spaulding resident. We also have recovered some stolen property that we have no victim for. This property was
recovered from a residence on Woodland lying next to a residence. Officer Hillyer attempted to canvass the neighbors to see who may have been missing the property and no
one reported missing any. These are battery operated hand tools so we are guessing it may have been a burglar’s tools who was going to attempt to make entry and was
scared off. Burglary calls aside, we also handled several calls for domestic dispute situations and other calls for service.
(Mayor Urban): Would like to commend Officer Hillyer on his effort to catch this kid that has been breaking into these cars, it is my understanding that you chased him from
Riverton High School to Rt. 54 on foot.

(Amy) Need pothole on Primrose repaired, it has gotten larger. Asked about the hydrant update and the siren grant. (Mayor Urban) explained that we have gotten the grant, but
they needed more paperwork.
(Amy) Street light needs fixed on Primrose still. Also will be having a collection drive here for the Sangamon County animal pound on Jan. 16  from 10-12, which is for bedding
and shampoos and etc. Also will have some pets up for adoption that are ready to go that day. I would like to make a sign with the date and time on it for this event, to be put out
front in between the post on our sign.
(Steve) Finishing plans and paperwork on the Third Street project that will be submitted either this week or next week to IDOT for review.  Adam said he will begin putting the
2010 paperwork together and have something put together for the February meeting. Assume that we will be working on the streets from the last two years that haven’t been
done, as well as some work on Magnolia with the drainage.
(ED) Would like to know how soon oil and chipping can be done, due to the plows tearing the roads up. (Mayor Urban) Unsure how soon it can be done, but possibly June.
Motion to adjourn meeting made by Jeff Hubbs and seconded by Brian Cuffle. All in favor, motion carries.
