Riverton Middle School joins national student effort to combat malaria
Riverton Middle School has announced that it will join the emerging national school movement to end malaria, one of the most deadly diseases in Africa. In an effort to raise
funds to combat the disease, Riverton Middle School will hold a “Stayin’ Alive” charity dance on May 22, dedicating the proceeds to purchase live-saving interventions for
vulnerable children.
Malaria is the single largest killer of children under five in Africa, responsible for one in four childhood deaths on the continent. Each year, over one million children die from the
disease. It is so pervasive and devastating in fact that the World Health Organization has named it “public health enemy No. 1” and Bill Gates recently labeled it “the worst thing
on the planet.”
Dubbed Stayin’ Alive, the national student movement is sponsored by Malaria No More, a leading non-profit that aims to galvanize individuals, organizations, and corporations
in the private sector to provide life-saving bed nets and other critical interventions to families in need.
Over the next three years, Stayin’ Alive hopes to encourage 10,000 schools across the country to pledge at least $1000 to support Malaria No More’s work. Raising $10 million
in total, these school students will provide one million families with insecticide-treated bed nets, saving countless children’s lives.
Stayin’ Alive was recently endorsed by First Lady Laura Bush, who will be personally writing a letter to the participating schools. Other celebrities such as David Beckham will
be seen in upcoming Stayin’ Alive advertisements.
Riverton Middle School’s May 22 dance will be held at the middle school, located at 1014 E. Lincoln. The Stayin’ Alive dance will be starting at 6 p.m.  To join the effort to fight
malaria and help save the lives of innocent children make your 100 percent tax deductible donation today.  Send donations to 1014 E. Lincoln, Riverton, IL. 62561.  Make checks
