The top-seeded Williamsville Lady Bullets volleyball team controlled the match with second-seeded Riverton from the start and easily claimed a 25-14, 25-13 win over the
Lady Hawks Saturday in the finals of the Class 2A Midwest Central Regional.
“I think we decided to put it all together,” said Williamsville coach Stacey Carlson.
In Game 1, Williamsville did not allow a point on the first four Riverton serves; meanwhile, Sami Dees scored three times (two errors and her own back-row kill) and Katie
Mason (Amelia Vignali kill) and Brogan McCarty (RHS in-the-net violation) each added one as the Lady Bullets led 9-3.
Katie Standish broke the Riverton serving drought with two tallies, with an ace and Katie Kueper kill, as the Lady Hawks got within 9-6.
Jillian Hills served a point for Williamsville to make it 11-6, then after traded sideouts, Becky Brauer stepped to the line for the Lady Bullets and rattled off six points in
succession.
A Riverton hitting error and Dees kill preceded Riverton coach Aimee Sutton’s timeout, then an ace and kills from Dees and Emily Langan came after the timeout, which left
the score 18-7.
Taylor Pulliam served an ace for the Lady Hawks.
Four straight servers did not dent the scoreboard, then Mason scored twice (an ace and McCarty kill) made it 23-11.
Katie Willhoit’s kill stopped Mason’s run and put Ashley Power on the line; she scored twice, on a WHS lift and an ace that caught the tape.
McCarty’s spike sent her to the line, and she closed out Game 1 with the assistance of  Vignali kill.
Riverton led 2-0 early in Game 2 (Kelly Smith had kills on both points), but Dees scored four in the row (an ace and three Riverton errors) to put the Lady Bullets up for good.
Five straight sideouts preceded two Hills tallies (Dees had a tip) as WHS took a 10-5 advantage.
Three markers from Langan (Dees kill and Mason/McCarty combined block) stretched the Lady Bullets’ lead to 15-7.
Five points from Dees (Vignali closed out the first one with a kill, then an ace and two hitting errors preceded a McCarty putaway) helped the lead swell to 21-8.
Kueper finally ended the run with a kill, then she scored three points (two WHS errors and a short-served ace).
Vignali’s kill stopped Kueper’s run, then Mason scored one on another Vignali kill.
McCarty’s kill sent her to the line again for match point, and a Riverton hitting error closed out the contest.
Dees had nine kills and seven digs, while McCarty put away eight kills and added four blocks and five digs. Mason dished out 24 assists and had six digs, and Vignali
contributed a half-dozen kills.
A frustrated Sutton would only say “I am very disappointed” after the match, especially considering how well the Lady Hawks had played in recent weeks. Riverton finished
the season at 13-14.
