RMS softball girls open with win over Lincolnwood
The Riverton Middle School softball team opened its season Saturday with a 14-4 thrashing of visiting Raymond Lincolnwood.
RMS scored in each of its five trips to the plate after spotting the Lady Knights a two-spot in the first.
Erica Trueblood walked with one out in the bottom of the first, as did Lauren Keller.
Brandi Kulek reached on a fielder’s choice and Carlie Cuffle grounded out to plate Trueblood.
In the second, Whitney Day tripled and scored on the same play thanks to an error. One out later, Shelby Hoover walked, then Kaitlin Brown was safe on a fielder’s choice; an
error on the same play allowed Hoover to cross the plate.
The Lady Knights pulled even in the third with a single marker, then the Lady Hawks exploded for a half-dozen tallies.
Kulek walked and went to second on a passed ball.
After a groundout, Day walked before a strikeout.
Hoover walked to load the bases, then Brown singled in Kulek; on the play, an error allowed Day to score.
Summer Schaive walked, as did Trueblood, the latter of which forced in a run.
Keller then drilled a bases-clearing double.
In the fourth, Cuffle singled and pilfered second before Day walked.
Cuffle also swiped third before Brianna Fisher’s run-scoring single.
Day later scored on a groundout.
Alyssa Koger and Cortlyn Blakeman both singled; Blakeman stole second before both scored on Trueblood’s two-bagger.
Kulek tripled to begin the fifth and scored on Day’s single to end the contest.
Kulek tossed a complete-game five-hitter with 10 strikeouts; only one of the four runs was earned.
Monday saw the Lady Hawks drill New Berlin 15-3 in five innings.
Kulek went the first two frames and Schaive finished up.
Riverton scored eight runs in the first and six in the third.
Cuffle had a double, while Kulek, Schaive, Day (two RBI) and Morgan Heckman had singles. Trueblood had two RBI as well for the Lady Hawks, who scored most of their runs
on wild pitches.
Schaive, Trueblood, Kulek, Keller, Day and Heckman all scored twice.
On Tuesday, the Lady Hawks pasted Lincoln Magnet 16-1 in three innings.
Kulek went all three frames, fanning six.
Riverton received 15 walks in the game; Trueblood (RBI) and Fisher had two hits, while Kulek had a hit and three RBI.
Trueblood and Keller both scored three times, while Schaive, Kulek and Day all crossed the plate twice.
