Sangamon County Fair June 18-22 in New Berlin
The 59th annual Sangamon County Fair will be held in New Berlin Wednesday, June 18 through Sunday, June 22.
Most judging, including craft work and culinary items, will be done Tuesday, June 17 at 9:30 a.m. Exhibitors must have their entries in by Friday, June 6 at 4 p.m. Judging of
livestock will take place throughout the five days.
The Miss Sangamon County Fair Queen Pageant will be held Wednesday, June 18 at 7 p.m. in the open pavilion.
The 2007 Queen, Deborah Dobbins, will crown the new queen. The 2008 Queen will receive a $1,000 scholarship and will also compete in the Miss Illinois County Fair Queen
Pageant in January in Springfield.
Queen candidates number 18 this year and include: Elizabeth Forbes, Taylor Stone, Jessica Hitt and Kara Burger of New Berlin; Leigh Ann Guennewig, Loami; Bobbie Britz,
Divernon; Carly Rakes, Auburn; Kelsey Frank, Ashley Lynch and Lachay Bell, Chatham; Jennifer Schrage, Pawnee; Nicole Wilson, Rochester; Kate Dresser, Jennifer Carr,
Ashley Shelabarger, Nicole Dillon, Morgan Metz and Ashley Grigsby, Springfield.
Other county fair major events include the Talent Show at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21; the chili cookoff the same day starting at 11 a.m. and the Motorcycle Dice Run also on
Saturday at 11 a.m.
The chili contest will have three categories: Red Chili, with a $500 first place prize; Chili Verdi, with a $200 first place prize; and Salsa, with a $50 first place prize.

Grandstand events this year include: Wednesday, June 18: Mean Street, a tribute to Early Van Halen at 8 p.m.; Thursday, June 19: Little Big Town at 8 p.m.; Friday, June 20:
Blake Shelton and Kellie Pickler at 8:30 p.m.; Saturday, June 21: Randy Owen, Country Music Hall of Fame Inductee from the legendary group Alabama at 8:30 p.m.
There will be fireworks after the Saturday grandstand show.
The Demolition Derby will be Sunday, June 22 at 4 p.m. Kid’s Days are Thursday and Friday, June 19-20.
The fair also includes several shows performed on a daily basis. These include the Swyear Carnival, which has a 5-6 p.m. break each day; Kandu & Co. Magic Show, Great
American Duck Race, Extreme Canines Show, The Bear Mountain Show, Sangamon Central Model Railroad, the H.A.Y.L.O.F.T. (Educational Agriculture Hands-on Activities).
The Roc House, sponsored by Miller Lite, will feature the following bands: Wednesday, June 18, Fatal Charm; Thursday, June 19, Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack
Shooters; Friday, June 20, Lost Boys; Saturday, June 21, F-5; Sunday, June 22, Easy Money.
Bands at the Budweiser Pavilion will be: Thursday, June 19, Jennie DeMarco and Saturday Night Special; Friday, June 20, Still Kick’n; Saturday, June 21, Borderline; and
Sunday, June 22, Antics.
All bands perform 8-12 with the exception of Sunday, which is 8-11.
Admission prices include all carnival rides and all shows. Adult admission, Wednesday and Sunday is $10, Thursday through Saturday, $15, 8 a.m. to close. Seniors and
children 3-10 are $5, children under three, free.
Season passes, which can be used all week, are $35 for adults; $20 for seniors (60 and older) and children 3-10. Exhibitors passes are $20 for adults, $15 for juniors and
parking is $5.
