Uniform issue could be voted on in November
At last month’s regular school board meeting, it was mentioned that new requirements for possible uniforms in the Riverton School
District could be voted on in November. While Superintendent Tom Mulligan wondered this week in an interview if that was a tad too
optimistic, he said if uniforms were to be implemented for next school year, a formal vote would be necessary by January. “I feel like
we would need to have one (a formal vote) by January to give parents time to prepare for a big change like this,” said Mulligan. There
is expected to be more discussion on uniforms during the October board meeting, slated for Oct. 13. “If there is still interest in at
least four board members to move forward, then we will discuss how we further the conversation with the community,” said
Mulligan. If in fact the board approves uniforms, it has not been decided how widespread it would be in the district (if it would be all-
encompassing, or just at the high school or middle school). Mulligan noted that this is not a response to discussion at last month’s
meeting, where it was noted that 30-50 students had already been sent home because of dress code violations.
Requiring a uniform first came up months ago, Mulligan noted, and data has been gathered from staff, students and parents. “It is
time to see if there is a real interest on the board to move forward with this,” said Mulligan, adding, “I have really only heard two
board members really discuss their opinions about the issue.” Mulligan is not aware of how many other schools similar in size to
Riverton are doing this statewide. The Illinois Association of School Boards did not have any concrete numbers on this issue, nor
did the State Board of Education; both were called Tuesday afternoon.
Faust headed to SCI
By Byron Painter

Riverton’s Kasey Faust will not have far to go to continue her softball career. Faust last Thursday signed with Springfield College in
Illinois. She had not planned on playing college softball, but SCI coach Todd Howe came with an offer of full tuition, and she
changed her mind. Since she eventually wants to end up at a Chicago school, and SCI is now a partner with Benedictine University
in suburban Lisle, SCI turns out to be a good fit Faust, a first team Prairie State Conference performer, plans to major in psychology.
Howe, who also has commitments from Williamsville pitcher Ashley Casson, among other local players, sees Faust in the circle
and also at the corner infield positions.
“I was impressed with both her hitting and pitching ability,” said Howe.
Riverton coach Doug Sagle will be sad to see Faust depart.
“It has been a real pleasure coaching Kasey,” he said.  She carried the pitching load for us this season and gave us a chance to win
every game that she threw.
“She was easily one of the best pitchers in the area, and she was a girl that hit really well and always seemed to make contact.”
But it was more than her on-field exploits that endeared him to her.
“Kasey not only was a very good player for us, but she had one of the best attitudes and led by example,” Sagle said. “SCI is getting
a very good pitcher and hitter and an even better teammate.”

Lady Trojans cruise past Riverton
By Byron Painter

The visiting Auburn Lady Trojans volleyball team did not trail in Game 1 and trailed only briefly in Game 2 and coasted to a 25-14, 25-
17 win over Riverton Tuesday night. In Game 1, four consecutive aces from Brooke Longmeyer put Auburn up 6-1. One tally from
Amanda Owens pulled Riverton slightly closer. Two Brittany Ippensen markers, including a Longmeyer kill, put Auburn up 12-6, then
three points a short time later from Kenzie Carter (bookended by Chelsea Davis kills) stretched the lead. Longmeyer and Amanda
Power (Jacqueline Cuffle kill) traded points, but Auburn still led 18-10. Davis scored twice, with Taylor Hunt and Marissa Schmid
combining on a block for the first point before Davis served an ace. Game 1 ended with seven consecutive sideouts, with a Davis tip
ending the game. After the Lady Trojans’ Shelby Brown and the Lady Hawks’ Katie Kueper traded service points, Auburn took the
lead with three Longmeyer tallies (an ace and Davis kill included). Power rattled off six points in a row (an ace and five Auburn
miscues) to put Riverton up for the first time. But three-point runs from Davis (an ace and kills from Ippensen and Schmid) and Hunt
(Ippensen and Schmid again had kills) put the Lady Trojans up for good. Katie Howard served two aces, then Riverton got within 17-
16 after three Ashley Siebert points (including an ace). The Lady Trojans finished out the game with eight of the last nine tallies.
Davis (six) and Ippensen combined for 11 kills, and Hunt had 19 assists and three blocks. Katie Willhoit paced Riverton with three
kills. Auburn also won the J-V match in two games.
Last Thursday, Riverton won at Kincaid 25-18, 25-13. Kueper and Taylor Pulliam both had eight service points, while Claire Watson
had four kills and Cuffle and Willhoit both had three.
Watson (four) and Kelly Smith combined for seven kills.
Allgaier finishes fourth at Chicagoland 200
Scott Lagasse Jr., in the No. 25 Venturini Motorsports-prepared Nicholson Group-Hamptons Luxury Homes Chevrolet, held off
ARCA RE/MAX Series championship contenders Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Scott Speed in a two-lap shootout to win the Chicagoland
ARCA 200 Saturday night at Chicagoland Speedway.   Riverton High School graduate Justin Allgaier finished in fourth place.
Lagasse’s crew chief Billy Venturini earned the Cometic Crew Chief of the Race Award, especially gratifying for the entire Venturini
family, who are natives of the Chicago area. Despite dominating much of the race leading 67 of 136 laps, Stenhouse settled for
second in the No. 99 Aflac Ford one length away, earning the Aaron’s Lap Leader Award. He was also the SunTrust Highest
Finishing Rookie. Speed, after a side-by-side battle with Allgaier on the last lap, finished third in the Red Bull Toyota.  Allgaier, in the
Hoosier Midwest-AG Tech-Auto Xpress Chevrolet, settled for fourth with Jesse Smith trailing in fifth in the Lloyd’s BBQ-Spam-
Hormel-Jones Group Dodge. Stenhouse swapped the lead five times with Speed throughout the race while Lagasse, who started
second, fell back with an ill-handling car. But after several pit stops, the first of which was unscheduled, the Venturini crew breathed
new life in the car, which positioned Lagasse among the leaders just in time to challenge for the win late in the race. The ARCA
RE/MAX Series will switch gears from speedway racing to short track racing next weekend when the series heads to the Salem
Speedway short-track in southern Indiana. The 200-lap race is set to roll off at 7:15 p.m. local time Sept. 13. Allgaier is in fifth place
in the points standings (3860 points); Speed leads with 4125.

then stole second and third and scored on Desi Burns’ single. Shelby Stouffe was safe an error, then Ashley Engle’s grounder plated Burns before Stouffe scored on a passed

Keller walked and Brianna Fisher also drew a walk. The Lady Redbirds got a walk from Kulavic and an error that allowed Ainsley Slifer to reach in the fourth, but a strikeout and
