Riverton Library surpasses fundraising goal
The book and bake sale event held to benefit the Riverton Village Library April 12 was a tremendous success, surpassing the original goal of raising $300 to expand the children’s
book collection.
Riverton Brownie Troop 6271 successfully raised $176.25 in bake sale and raffle proceeds, which combined with generous donations and book sales raised close to $500.
“We are extremely pleased and appreciative of the generosity so many members of the community showed in turning out to show their support,” stated head librarian Nancy Kocis.
“We want to particularly thank our volunteers and Brownie Troop 6271 for all their hard work.  Because we were able to surpass our original goal, we were able to not only
purchase the Rebecca Caudill Young Readers’ and Monarch Books, but also many of the Abraham Lincoln books geared to young teens.”
For additional information, contact Nancy Kocis, Head Librarian, Riverton Village Library, 217-629-6353.

North County Teen Court uses different tack for offenders
By Byron Painter

The Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees a defendant the right to a speedy trial with an impartial jury.  It
just does not say how old that jury has to be.  The North County Teen Court, which covers Buffalo, Dawson, Mechanicsburg,
Riverton, Sherman, Spaulding and Williamsville, has for almost three years been hearing cases while helping to alleviate the
already overcrowded county juvenile court system. (
