RMS 7th graders split at Meridian Tournament
The Riverton Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team lost two contests in the Pana Tournament last week.
Macon Meridian edged past the Hawks 21-17 in the opener, as a 12-5 halftime deficit proved to be too much to overcome.
Brianna Fisher tossed in seven points and Whitney Day added five.
Central A&M then cruised past Riverton 42-18, leading 11-4, 23-10 and 36-14 at the quarter stops.
Fisher had five buckets for 10 points, with Erica Trueblood next with four markers.

The seventh graders split at the Meridian Tournament.
Riverton whipped Central A&M 32-17, pulling away from a 14-9 halftime lead.
Carlie Cuffle pumped in 14 points, and Morgan Heckman added seven. Alyssa Koger and Kirsten Mosely both chipped in four.
Host Macon Meridian then defeated Riverton 29-21.
Riverton outpointed Macon 12-2 in the final stanza after getting outscored 9-0 in the third period.
Cuffle had all but two of Riverton’s tallies; Koger added two free throws in the final quarter.

Last Tuesday at Rochester, the hosts whipped the eighth graders 35-9. Day had six and Trueblood the other three.
Rochester led 11-0 after one quarter.
The seventh graders did not fare better, losing 41-6; Riverton managed only two points in each of the final three stanzas, with only one basket (from Cuffle) in the third quarter.
Cuffle also made two free throws, and Sam O’Connor added two freebies.

Monday vs. Girard, the varsity fell short 40-24; Riverton was outscored 9-2 in the second period to fall behind 16-7 at the half, then rallied to be down only 22-18 after three
periods.
Day reached double figures with 10 points, and Fisher added five and Chelsea Martinez four.
The seventh graders lost a 27-26 heartbreaker despite 10 from Koger and seven from O’Connor. Cuffle contributed five.
The Lady Hawks made only two of 13 free throws.
