New addition ready for students Tuesday
Students returning from the Christmas break will find the bulk of the $5.6 million high school renovation completed.
In fact, the high school students will get to eat in their new cafetorium, just one of several new areas.
Members of the community will get a chance to view the new quarters at an open house Sunday, January 8 from 1-3 p.m.
Although only a few details were still up in the air this week, project manager Bill Dargert said, “It has been hectic at times
and we had a few problems last week with tile, but we should be ready next week.”
Besides the cafetorium, which might be considered one of the major improvements and not only serves as the cafeteria but
also as an auditorium, there is much more. The old cafeteria was built in 1954 and the high school had no auditorium.
The new entrance faces the north and is just off a new parking zone that has 114 more spaces. School buses will still load
and drop off on the south side of the building.
The new building, with a good sized entrance hall, is the gateway to the gymnasium but also to new additions such as three
classrooms, a computer lab and fitness center.
The three classrooms will be occupied by teachers, Mrs. Terri McElfresh (business), Mrs. Jennifer Durbin (English) and Miss
Lauren Radliff (history).
The $5.6 million in improvements were paid for without a tax increase. The money came from savings by the board over a
period of years. In addition, the school district is eligible for a state grant to build a new classroom wing.
