Pawnee High School had 14
athletes earn All-Conference
honors in football and volleyball
from Prairie State Conference
coaches for the 2009 season. In
football, the Indians had six
first-team selections, including
unanimous choices Sean Koen at
defensive back and Dylan Grant at
linebacker. Other first team players
were Tre Angeli (offensive tackle),
Dillon Pearce (halfback), onathan
Schrage (fullback) and Zach
Puckett (defensive line). Two
players were named to the second
team All-PSC on both offense and
defense, J.D. Vandenberg (tight
end and linebacker) and Drew
Thompson (quarterback and
defensive back). Also named to the
second team were Wesley Ferrill
(defensive line) and Dalton
Langheim (offensive guard).
Earning honorable mention were
Mitchell Jackson and Stanley
DeSart. Lakin Puzey of Pawnee
was a unanimous first team
All-PSC choice in volleyball. Mallory
Crain and Payge Bowen were
named to the second team and
Avery Bourne earned honorable
mention.

round match at 119 pounds Saturday at the
Rochester Invitational. Walters, who has a
26-9 dual meet record, was the Trojans' only
first place winner in the 10-team meet.
The Pawnee 7th grade girls won the title of
the Pawnee 2A Regional last Thursday by
knocking off Christ The King 25-22, 25-17.
The Jr. Indians then topped Mt. Pulaski for
the Sectional title Monday and will carry an
18-5 record to the IESA State Tourney in
Heyworth Saturday. Team members are,

ninth straight win over
Kincaid
Pawnee remained unbeaten on the 2010 season Friday
with a 33-6 home win over Kincaid. It was the ninth
straight win for the Indians over the Ponies. (more)

wins
sportsmanship
award
The Pawnee High School football
team, including coaches, players
and fans, are recipients of the
Capitol Area Officials Associations
2010 good sportsmanship award.
This award is presented annually
by the CAOA in recognition of
football programs that have
exhibited a positive attitude and
superior sportsmanship
throughout the football season.
Head Coach Kitt Thein would like
to thank his coaches and players
for their display of good
sportsmanship on and off the field.
He would also like to thank the
great fans of Pawnee for their
positive support of the football
program.
Baseball Indians split first two games
The Pawnee High baseball team opened the 2011 season by splitting its first two outings. The
Indians fell 8-4 to Rochester in the season opener but came back Monday to defeat Staunton 4-2
in the first Prairie State Conference game of the season.
Ryan Bailey fired a complete game three-hitter in the win over Staunton, striking out 11 and
walking just one. Bailey allowed only one earned run. Pawnee, which was held to four hits,
scored two runs in each of the first two innings, with Jonathan Schrage’s two-run homer keying
the first inning rally. Cale Hennemann had a double while Alex Matheis and Matt Allen had
singles. Cates took the loss against Rochester, in which the Indians were outhit, 11-3.
Hennemann, Hunter Hamilton and Andrew West all had singles for PHS.
Coach Chris Hennemann returns for his 13th season at the helm of the Indians. Pawnee is
coming off a 24-8 season in which the Indians won the MSM Conference with an 11-1 mark and
were second in the PSC (4-2). The Pawnee roster numbers 20 with five seniors, eight juniors,
one sophomore and six freshmen. However, one senior, Michael Shepherd, will be sidelined
with a shoulder injury he suffered during basketball season. The Indians have experience
among the returning cast and won’t lack for pitching, with the likes of Bailey, Hamilton, Cates and
Dalton Doerfler available. The roster includes: seniors - Cates, Hamilton, Schrage, West,
Shepherd; juniors - Bailey, Allen, Matheis, Doerfler, Billy Howell, Drew Shepherd, Tyler Gresham,
Devon Nance; sophomore - Cody Thornton; freshmen - Hennemann, Austin Boner, Mason
Bourne, Tristen Gary, Ethan Crain, Tom Garvin. Hennemann will be assisted by Raph
Hennemann, Rick Carter, Dale Meyers, Erik Angeli and Rodney Naylor.
