at 7:10 p.m. Monday, August 18. Present were Mayor Manning, Clerk Cynthia Kramer,
village attorney Dan Scheuring and Trustees Steve Gudgel, Tom Bowen, Terry
Woodcock, Lindsey Young and Bill Miller. Trustee Phillip Thompson, out of town on
business, participated by phone conference. Immediately following roll call trustees
entered executive session for the purpose to discuss personnel issues on a motion
made by Lindsey Young and second by Steve Gudgel. Trustees spent approximately
30 minutes in executive session before re-entering the regular session at 8:35 p.m.
Upon re-entering regular session trustees took action on the agenda item
referencing Zoning Board appointments. On a motion made by Steve Gudgel and
second by Terry Woodcock trustees unanimously approved Mayor Kenton Manning’s
appointment of Tom Tindell, Tom Durr and Randy Williams to the Pawnee Zoning
Board/Planning Commission. Both Manning and Gudgel noted that a Zoning Board
hearing is scheduled for August 21 and that they would be available to answer any
questions the new appointees may have regarding procedure and the village’s
Zoning Code of Ordinances.
Cemetery seeks pledges for wrought iron fencing
The Horse Creek Cemetery Association has embarked on a campaign to raise $20,000 for the
installation of a wrought iron fence, two sets of drive-through gates plus one walk-through section.
This comes on the heels of a successful tree clean-up campaign which stirred inquiries and
requests for the possibility of the wrought iron fencing. Needed would be 600 feet of fencing or 70
panels to complete the project. Each panel is estimated to cost $270. Adding in the gates, the cost
was set at $20,000. The Cemetery's proposal is to seek pledges, but none would be collected until
the $20,000 has been reached.
A pledge form is published in today's Post which can be sent to treasurer Kenneth Fry at 1219
Frisina, Pawnee. Cemetery Board members ask that local residents inform out-of-town friends and
relatives of the campaign. The Cemetery Board also thanked those who donated to the tree cleanup,
adding that Rural Electric Convenience Cooperative will remove, free of charge, five more trees on the
west side of the cemetery. In fact, RECC has pledged $50 per tree because of no maintenance being
required for it in the future.
