New water line ready to go
By Linda Hughes
Mayor Steve Frank told members of the New Berlin Village Board Nov. 16 that the operating permit for the new water line has
come through and that the line is ready to go.
The village will be buying water from the South Sangamon Water Commission.
Village attorney John Myers said the new water station is on schedule and that it could take until March to permit it. He added
that the wells are doing real well.
Water from the new plant is expected to reach the village in early 2012, Frank said.
Trustees agreed that the firehouse would again be used as a warming center this winter. Curt Stephens said that last winter
after the blizzard a lot of people did not know about the center. Trustees also agreed to use the village hall for overflow. Neither
place will have facilities for sleeping overnight.
Ken Davis of Kennect Systems appeared at the meeting to answer concerns about the alert system. He said a new update
for the system would be ready in the next two weeks.
Frank reported that 116 people have signed up to get the emergency alerts and that more are signing up all the time, many
wanting to know why the waste facility is closed on some days.
Police chief Terry Nydegger said the village again has a juvenile officer to handle the paper work in court cases.  He is Aaron
Entringer, a new officer.
The board approved an agreement for engineering services with Benton & Associates for work on North Cedar Street. The
agreement is contingent on the village receiving a $214,000 government grant for the work.
Three letters were sent to residents to either remove a nuisance or to repair or remove an unsafe structure, the mayor said.
He has had responses on two, and the third is still talking. He and Myers expressed optimism that some action will be taken.
The new outdoor warning sirens will be tested the first Tuesday in December, Frank said.
