The Chatham Village Board approved  a major TIF District construction project at Tuesday night's
meeting.
A middle turn lane will be added along Walnut Street, from Route 4 east to East Street.  The road will
remain two lanes over the railroad.
The area around the post office and east of the tracks is very congested, explained Village Director of
Utilities and Administration Del McCord.  Entrances to the post office, Main Plaza and areas east of the
tracks will now have a middle turn lane to improve access.
The project will include addressing drainage issues by the post office and BP gas station, as well as
improving access to the bike trail.  A bid of $914,000 from Illinois Paving has been accepted for the work,
and the total project cost is expected to exceed $1 million.
The entire project will be paid for through TIF funds, McCord said.  Construction is expected to start
soon and the work should be completed this fall, he added.
•The village has received $214,000 in state funds as part of a capital improvement plan signed into
law by Gov. Pat Quinn.
The money will be used to continue replacing an aging water main that stretches from the ground
storage tank at the I-55 frontage road to the Apple Barn.  The main will be extended as far east as the
allotted money will allow materials to be purchased, McCord said.
Further extensions will wait for more state or federal stimulus monies, he added.
•Also at Tuesday's board meeting, the board voted to hire a police officer to fill the open position left by
Roy Barnett's retirement.  David Leach, a Rochester native who currently works in Pontiac, was hired to a
full-time position.
•Village committee meetings will be held Tuesday, July 21, starting at 6 p.m. at Municipal Hall.
