Viola new BE principal

      Joe Viola, assistant principal this past year at Glenwood Middle School, has been promoted to the principal position at Ball
Elementary.
      The move was announced at Monday’s Ball-Chatham Board of Education meeting.  Viola replaces Cathy Rogers, who retired last
month.  He was given a two-year contract with a starting salary of $85,000.
      Supt. Bob Gillum told the Clarion that Viola was the only internal applicant to apply for the job.  There were several external
candidates, he added.
      In other personnel moves, the board accepted the resignation of Lori Niemeier, Director of Fiscal Services.  She has accepted a new
job in Jacksonville.
      From closed session, the board approved an early retirement request from GMS counselor Debra Blumthal.  The board also
approved salary increases for District Office ESP staff.
      A new state mandate requires all administrators on multi-year contracts must have their goals attached to it.  Therefore, all
administrator contracts are now being presented as two-year deals, through June 30, 2013.  Salaries for fiscal year 2012 were set:
      Asst. Supt. Carrie Van Alstine ($125,000), Chief Financial Officer Patrick Murphy ($85,000), Acting Special Education Director Jennifer
Barham ($85,000), Glenwood High School Principal Jim Lee ($119,000), GHS Associate Principal Chris Becker ($95,000), GMS Principal
Kerry Cox ($103,000), GIS Principal Jill Larson ($110,500), Chatham Elementary Principal Kim Sepich ($101,000), Glenwood Elementary
Principal Christi Mulligan ($91,500) and Ball Principal Viola ($85,000).
      •The board accepted the following resignations: Narita Lambert (4th grade teacher), Kristina Valentine (GHS tech team), Doris Mixer
(bus monitor), Erik Raikes (GHS asst. girls basketball coach), Jennifer Babbitt (GHS athletic administrative assistant), Bernie Lornitis (BE
special needs aide), Jackie Bilbruck (GMS football cheer coach), Kevin Rogers (GMS asst. wrestling coach) and Leslie Anderson
(physical therapist).
      The board voted to employ the following: Kelsey Lee (PT EC teacher at BE), Caitlin Barrett (GMS language arts and GMS asst. girls
basketball coach), Caley Fields (GHS special education), Kimberly Leininger (GHS English), Monica Boltz (BE Pre-K/EC), Karrie Seibring
(GHS special education), James Verenski (GMS hall monitor, GMS asst. football coach, GMS asst. wrestling coach), Yvonne Ralph (GES
library aide), Crystal Day (GES tech team), Jessica Tobias (GES tech team).
      Laura Sheedy (CE tech team), Stephanie Young (CE tech team), Tricia Burke (PreK-5th lead mentor), Elizabeth Gregurich (GIS literacy
coach and 6-12 lead mentor), Deb Lee (BE tech team), Justin Habenschuss (BE tech team), Dan Frederking (GHS newspaper sponsor),
Adam Feld (ESY aide - BE), Tamara Bottoroff (ESY aide - GHS), Lori Lewis (District Office AR clerk), Edward Jumper (BE 2nd shift

      Hannah Cave (GMS fall cheerleading coach), Christine Herkert (GMS asst. girls basketball coach), Cara McQuality (GMS asst.
volleyball coach and GMS asst. girls basketball coach), Dustin Bilbruck (GMS asst. wrestling coach), Jim Wolfe (facilities technician
foreman) and Adam McCord (grounds crew foreman).
      The board approved involuntary transfers for Reuben Seelund (GMS custodian to GE custodian), Bon Yen Robertson (GMS cafeteria
to GE cafeteria) and Nita Jansen (GMS cafeteria to GE cashier).  Leaves of absence requests were granted for Barb Farris, Donna
Kerska, Kara Leaman and Kimberly Clausen.
