Swimmers claim 2 triangular meets
The Glenwood High School boys swimming and diving team claimed two triangular meets this
past week.
The Titans defeated claimed a meet over both Lincoln and Charleston, with Glenwood scoring
141 points, to 81 for Lincoln and 79 for Charleston.
"This was our fourth dual meet in 10 days and many of the boys swam tired at this meet,"
Glenwood coach Jenni Baldin stated. "Not to mention the fact that the weather put a damper on our
practice schedule for the week."
Sam Gill had a strong run in claiming the 50 yard freestyle in 22.31. He continues to edge closer
to the state qualifying time.
Tom Deppe claimed the 100 yard freestyle in 52.41 seconds, edging out Sam Wood of Lincoln.
Chris Burke of Glenwood placed third in 55.63.
"Tom is a competitor and he doesn't let much get by him," Baldin explained. "It was a fun race to
watch him win."
The Titans also had a strong run in the 100 backstroke, with Deppe winning in 1:00.35 and
Anthony Pryor (1:18.29) and Brett Sherman (1:22.21) each establishing personal best times.
And in the 100 breaststroke, Matt Butler (1:13.83) and Ethan Jones (1:41.10) established
personal bests. Glenwood results from the meet are as follows:

Glenwood defeated O'Fallon and Southeast at a triangular meet Jan. 13. The Titans had 142
points, to 121 for O'Fallon and 43 for Southeast.
"We sprinted very well," Baldin stated. "Many of my swimmers that swam the 50 and 100 free
swam personal best times."
Gill finished within a tenth of a second of the state qualifying time in the 50 free at 22.34.
"It's exciting to see Sam swim this fast at midseason, and it will be even more exciting when he is
rested at the sectional meet," Baldin added.
Butler had a season best time in the 50 free (24.57) and 100 breaststroke (1:13.89). Also,
Devon Loftus dropped three full seconds off his best time in the 100 freestyle, finishing in 57.24
seconds.
