Starter Madison Bandy pitched out of some early trouble, and the Glenwood bats came alive later
on as the Titan softball girls claimed a 9-2 decision over Rochester in the title game of the IESA
Class AA Chatham Regional Tuesday at GIS.
Glenwood (17-7) advances to the Edwardsville Lincoln Sectional, where they will face the host
school at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Edwardsville High School sports complex, 616 Center Grove Road.
Lincoln defeated crosstown rival Liberty 2-1 in their regional title game. The state tournament will be
held Sept. 26-27 in Normal.
Bandy pitched the first four innings to gain the victory for GMS. She got out of jams in the first and
third innings before giving way to Morgan Tudor, who got out of a 7th inning Rochester uprising in
style, as CF Brendel Marshall threw out Jenn Hart at the plate for the game's final out.
Hart singled and Kara Kestner walked to open the top of the first for Rochester, but Bandy escaped
a second and third, no out situation by striking out Katie Elliott, getting a popout from Amanda Fisher,
and striking out Gabby Oldan.
The Rockets took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, after leadoff batter Hart reached second base
after a bunt and collision at first base with GMS second baseman BriAnna Edgar. Edgar injured her
ankle on the play, but stayed in the game after a few minutes of recovery.
Eventually, the Rockets scored a run after a groundout and wild pitch, but Bandy escaped further
trouble with a strikeout and groundout.
Glenwood grabbed the lead for good in the bottom of the third, as Katie Hudson walked and Abby
Burton singled to left. Both runners moved up after a sacrifice by catcher Alaina Bisch. Brooke
Riemenschneider then laced a two-run double to right-center, stole third base, and scored on an
errant throw to third.
Hudson made an oustanding diving catch in left in the fourth, and Bandy finished off her day by
inducing a groundout from Kirsten Warren.
The Titans scored four more runs in the bottom of the fourth, as Bisch walked with the bases
loaded, Riemenschneider had an RBI sacrifice fly, and Tudor smacked a two-run single to center.
In the bottom of the fifth, Edgar singled to right and pinch-hitter Avori Henderson doubled to left,
scoring Edgar. Hudson re-entered for Henderson and scored on an infield single by Bisch for a 9-1
GMS lead.
Tudor allowed an unearned run in the sixth, but escaped further trouble by striking out Warren with
two runners on.
