Girls soccer team downs Rochester 4-0
The Glenwood High School girls soccer team scored four second-half goals in defeating host
Rochester 4-0 Monday night.
The Titans (4-1, 2-0 CS8) and Rockets were tied 0-0 at halftime.  Glenwood had several good
chances to score, and goalie Caitlyn Moody kept things scoreless with a great save with about 40
seconds left in the first half.  Moody tipped a long shot by Rochester's Jillian Sulcer over the goal.
In the second half, Glenwood had the wind to its back, and just over four minutes in, Sydney Alstott
and Taylor Buske tracked down a high bouncer near the Rochester goal, with Buske knocking the
loose ball into the goal for a 1-0 GHS lead.
The Titans controlled most of the play in the second half, and things got a bit physical at times.
Glenwood scored three goals in the final 20 minutes, with junior Jenny Mosley sending in a nice left-
footer from about 17 yards out into the top left corner of the goal, past RHS goalie Kelly Werthwein, to
give GHS a 2-0 lead.
The final two Titans' goals came 40 seconds apart with under seven minutes to go.  Ali Traina, who
shook off a first half foot injury, blasted a 25-yard shot over Werthwein's head for a 3-0 lead, and Erin
Egolf added her own 18-yard shot with her left foot for a 4-0 Glenwood lead.  Kaitlyn Gregg assisted
on Traina's goal.
Moody had five saves in goal for the Titans, while Glenwood had 15 shots on goal.
"Rochester did play physical, but it's nothing our kids haven't seen before," GHS coach Jay Lipe
stated.  "I think they had a girl that was getting frustrated because Egolf was beating her again and
again, so the only way she could stop her was to give her a bear hug.  Erin kept her composure and
had an outstanding goal at the end.  Hopefully, we can continue to build on that game."
•Glenwood fell 3-2 to Edwardsville last Thursday, with all of the scoring coming in the second half.
Kristin Kurilla scored twice for the Tigers, with her second goal tying the game at 2-2.  Kaylee
Neutzling scored the game-winner with 16 minutes to go.
Brittany Coffinbargar and Erin Egolf scored for the Titans, with Annie Kwedar assisting on
Coffinbargar's goal.  The Tigers had 11 shots on goal, to 10 for the Titans.
•Coming up, the Titans are scheduled to host Southeast April 10 and Jacksonville April 15.  The
O'Fallon game scheduled for last week was cancelled due to the O'Fallon field being under water.
The Quincy Notre Dame contest set for this week had to be cancelled due to a scheduling conflict on
the QND end.  Also, the contest with Quincy Senior has been rescheduled for May 8.
Postseason assignments are out, with Glenwood placed in the Class AA Granite City Super-
Sectional and Quincy Notre Dame Sectional.  The sectional has been divided into sub-sectionals,
with the Titans in a group with Charleston, Mattoon, Springfield High, Lanphier, SHG, Southeast and
Taylorville.
The other sub-sectional features Alton, Bethalto, Edwardsville, Highland, Jacksonville, Jerseyville,
Quincy Notre Dame, Quincy Senior and Wood River.
