Despite rain, boys get four out to Sectionals
There's nothing like waiting all year for a one-day tournament, and then seeing raindrops fall all
day.
But despite the inclement weather Tuesday, the Class 2A Taylorville Regional boys golf
tournament at Lake Shore was played.
And while the Glenwood Titans did not advance as a team, GHS did manage to qualify four
individuals for this Saturday's Salem Sectional.  Charlie Arentzen took third at regionals with an 82,
while Sean Otten (88), Jake Giganti (88) and Zane Carmean (90) also advanced.
Jacksonville was the top team with a score of 330, followed by Mattoon (341), Quincy Notre Dame
(343) and Glenwood (348). Nick Cisne of Jacksonville was the medalist with a 76, and his round
included a triple bogey.
"The course was playable," Glenwood coach Bob Cox stated.  "It rained the whole time, and there
was only one hole that I thought shouldn't have been played.  It was just a battle for the kids to be out
there.  The rain was relentless."
Ryan Lex shot a 92, while Josh Giganti had a 97 for the Titans.
The four Glenwood qualifiers will play a practice round Friday in Salem, though they will not be
able to finish due to not being able to get an earlier tee time, Cox stated.  None of the qualifiers has
played Salem Country Club before, he added.
•The Titans also played at Lake Shore on Saturday, though in much different conditions, as the
sun was shining and the course was "hard as a rock," Cox said.
Otten and Arentzen each shot 77, while both Jake and Josh Giganti shot 82 and Carmean had an
83.  The Titans shot a 318, 30 shots better than Tuesday, to finish fourth, behind Quincy, Springfield
and SHG.
•At the CS8 meet at Bunn Park last Thursday, Glenwood finished fifth with a score of 332.
Springfield High (308) edged SHG (311) for the team title.
Arentzen earned All-Conference honors by shooting a 79, taking 11th overall, while Carmean had
an 83, followed by: Jake Giganti (83), Josh Giganti (87), Otten (90) and Lex (94).
