
GMS sending 27 to IESA state track meet
The Glenwood Middle School 7th grade girls track team continued its perfect season so far by
claiming the IESA Class 7AA Rochester Sectional title last Saturday.
As a team, the girls have not lost a meet this season. GMS scored 108 points, to 66.5 for
runner-up Rochester. A total of 10 team members have qualified for the state meet, to be held this
Friday and Saturday at EastSide Centre in East Peoria.
Glenwood Middle School and head coach Max Wollet will be taking a contingent of 27 to East
Peoria, with every GMS class represented. Sectional champions for Glenwood include: Luke Perko
(7th boys hurdles), Taylor Copp (7th girls hurdles) and Joey Giovannelli (100 and 200 meter dash),
along with three relay teams - 7th girls 4x100, 7th boys 4x100 and 8th boys 4x100.
Wollet said the 7th girls 4x100 relay team (Copp, Crystal Lee, Anika Webster, Jazmin Jackson and
Malina Murphy) established a new school record with a time of 53.5 seconds.
State qualifiers for Glenwood are:
Pole vault - Raquel Ellison (7th girls), Katelyn Eike (7th girls).
Discus - Brooke Riemenschneider (7th girls).
Hurdles - Taylor Copp (7th girls), Luke Perko (7th boys).
400 - Hannah Johnson (7th girls).
1600 - Kirsten Aydt (7th girls), Lauren Mueller (8th girls), Rachel Kobayashi (8th girls).
100 - Jackson (7th girls), Giovannelli (8th boys).
200 - Giovannelli (8th boys).
800 - H. Johnson (7th girls), Tyler Brinkman (7th boys) and Ian Rogers (8th boys).
