Baseball Titans walk past Normal West
The Glenwood Titans baseball team scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning, then held on for
a 9-8 win over previously unbeaten Normal West this past Friday.
Glenwood (7-0, 1-0 CS8) also had a couple of contests postponed this past week.  The Titans defeated
Lanphier 5-0 in their conference opener April 2 at Chamberlain Park.
Against Normal West (8-1), GHS trailed 8-6 entering the top of the seventh, then scored three runs as
Derek Waggener walked, then with two outs Alex Pfeiffer singled.  Ben Parks walked to load the bases,
then pinch-hitter Ryan Williams was hit by a pitch to force in a run.
Leadoff batter Trevor McGrath walked to bring the tying run home, and Jacob Reese also walked to give
GHS a 9-8 edge. In the bottom of the inning, closer Jake Ingold allowed three baserunners but managed
to escape a two-out, bases loaded situation by getting Erich Bushong to ground out to second to end the
game.
Waggener started and pitched three innings, allowing five earned runs on five hits and three walks.  He
struck out two.  Tim Sullivan (1-0) relieved and pitched three innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on
two hits, including a home run, while walking one and striking out two.  Ingold earned his third save,
allowing two hits and a walk while striking out one.
At the plate, Reese was on base five times, with three singles and two walks, and he collected two
RBIs.  McGrath had a single, double and walk, as did Parks.  Second baseman David Kaufmann had a
two-run double in the third inning.  Catcher Kyle Krager had two hits, including a double, to go along with
two runs scored and two RBIs.
•Against Lanphier, Mc-Grath (2-0. 2.15 ERA) shut down the Lions on one hit, a double by Tyler Novy in
the fifth inning, and one walk while striking out nine in seven innings.
The Titans busted open a scoreless game in the sixth inning, scoring four runs off Lions' starter Jake Hill.
The first four Glenwood batters of the inning - McGrath, Reese, Krager and Waggener, all reached base
and scored.  Ingold had a two-run single and Kaufmann an RBI single in the inning.
In the seventh, Kaufmann added another RBI single, scoring Waggener, who had earlier singled and
moved to second on a walk to Ingold.
Glenwood finished with seven hits, including two doubles, and three walks against Hill.
•The Titans' second contest with Lanphier has been rescheduled for April 10, and the April 8 game
against Springfield High was postponed to a date to be determined.  GHS is scheduled to host East
Peoria Friday in a doubleheader, then begin a two-game series with SHG April 15 in Springfield, with the
return game the following day in Chatham.
•Postseason assignments are out for Class 3A, with Glenwood being sent to the Urbana Super-
Sectional and Decatur Eisenhower Sectional.  Glenwood will host a four-team regional, with Jacksonville,
Quincy Notre Dame and Southeast also competing.  Seeds for the regionals will be determined at a later
date.
