Fire Department to test hydrants
The Chatham Fire Department will be conducting its annual testing of fire hydrants beginning
Monday, June 9.
The tests are required by the Insurance Service office and are designed to show the operation and
water quantity from each hydrant.  Testing will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through
Saturday.  The tentative date for completion of the testing is Sept. 30, 2008.
The flow of water during the tests may stir up rust and sediment in the water mains, causing a rust
color to appear in the water.  There is no health hazard involved and running your water for a few
minutes will clear up the discoloration.  The Fire Department asks that people refrain from washing
clothes during testing hours because clothes washed during this time may become discolored.
Contact the CFD at 483-2121 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. with questions.
