GLENWOOD HALL OF FAME 2010 - The
Glenwood Hall of Fame Class of 2010 was
inducted during ceremonies held last
Sunday at Glenwood High School.

Dowling were inducted, along with the
members of the 1978 Glenwood football

Water, sewer rates to rise starting May 1

The Chatham Village Board approved an increase in water and sewer rates, effective May 1,

'No growth' budget passed

School board accepts site work bids

The Ball-Chatham Board of Education accepted bids for site work at the new elementary
school on Plummer Blvd. at last Wednesday's special meeting. (

Initial site work has started on the new
elementary school to be built just west of
Glenwood High School, just north of
Plummer Blvd.  A fence has been erected
around the work area.  Construction is
expected to be finished in time for the
building to open in August 2011.
School to have different look;

IDOT moves up bridge work, fireworks
July 3

are still needed to fund the event. (

morning at the Veterans Memorial on the

Medina named 2010 Glenwood
Valedictorian
Karl Medina, son of Juan and Wendie Medina of Chatham, has been named as the
Valedictorian of the Class of 2010 at Glenwood High School. Clare Arentzen, daughter of Carl
Arentzen and Kathy Kojis, has been named Salutatorian.  Medina will attend Yale University,
while Arentzen will be attending Princeton University.
Graduation ceremonies for the Glenwood High School Class of 2010 will be held this
Saturday, June 5, at 8 p.m. at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield.  There are
334 candidates for graduation.
Medina is one of 25 students in the United States to receive a National Aeronautics and
Space Administration (NASA) Scholarship.  This scholarship is awarded along with an
internship at NASA.
Medina has also been awarded scholarships by the National Action Council for Minorities in
Engineering, the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship (for being in the top two percent of
Illinois scholars), and a scholarship that accompanies his honor of being a National Merit
Scholar.
Board, BCEA ratify contract

WYMG steps up with fireworks donation

Local radio station WYMG has stepped up with a $1,500 donation to ensure the 2010
Chatham Fireworks Blast, scheduled for Saturday, July 3, at Community Park, will go on as

RECORD BREAKERS! - The Glenwood High
School boys 4x400 meter relay team
established new school and conference
records last Friday night, ending the meet in
style by finishing in 3:22.65.  As a team,
Glenwood rolled to the overall CS8 title,
winning 11 events in all.  Relay team

SECTIONAL CHAMPS! - The Glenwood High
School boys track team captured its first-ever
Sectional title last Friday night, cruising to the
Class 2A Lincoln Sectional title.  The meet
was held at Glenwood High School.  Seniors

School bids still over
budget, but approved

Following a two-hour closed session Monday night,
the Ball-Chatham Board of Education approved, by
a 5-0 vote (Weitzel, Kwedar absent), over $10
million in bids for the new elementary school
project. (

The Ball-Chatham School District held a
ground-breaking ceremony for the new
elementary school Monday.  The ceremony
was held at Glenwood High School,
overlooking the area where the new school
will be built.  Members of the school board
shoveled ceremonial dirt, while students in
grades K-12 sang the national anthem.
