Village of Chatham employees were busy
dropping off pipes that will be used for the
transmission main between Chatham and
the South Sangamon Water Plant scheduled
to be constructed east of Buckhart.  The
pipes will be placed at several locations
along the route, including the New City
Road/Old Route 66 intersection (above),
located adjacent to Ball Elementary.  Pipe will
continue to be delivered and dropped off
through the middle of May.  The above
location drop-off is on County property,
according to SSWC Chairman Del McCord.
Road closures coming on
Gordon Drive
Sangamo Construction will begin work on the Gordon Drive
box culvert project on or about April 24, 2010.  The work site is
located south of Walnut Street in Chatham, and will require the
closure of Gordon Drive between Ramblewood Road and Mau
Drive. Initial work will involve starting on the box culvert project
just north of Mau Drive.  Gordon Drive will be closed to all traffic
between Mau and Spruce Street from the start of the project
until approximately Aug. 30, 2010. On or about July 1, 2010,
work will begin on the second box culvert, north of Spruce.  At
that time, the full closure of Gordon Drive will be extended
north to a location just south of Ramblewood. A detour for
Gordon will be posted along Walnut Street, Gilreath Road and
Hurstbourne Lane for the entire duration of the project.  The
anticipated completion date for the entire project is on or
around August 30, 2010. (From April 22, 2010 edition)

Donations sought for
Fireworks Display
The annual Fireworks Display has been cut from the Village
of Chatham budget, but local officials are hopeful the show
will still go on. Trustee Joe Schatteman and other officials
are spearheading the effort to keep the tradition going.
Donations are being sought, and as of Tuesday night,
nearly $3,000 of the needed $6,000 had already been
raised. Trustee Tom Kavanagh, in fact, pledged $500 on his
own at the end of the village board meeting. Those wishing
to donate should drop off payment at the Utility Office or mail
to: Village of Chatham Fireworks Blast, 116 E. Mulberry,
Chatham, IL, 62629. Schatteman said that if the needed
monies are raised, the fireworks display will be held on
Saturday, July 3, or Sunday, July 4.  Local businesses, civic
organizations and individuals are being asked to donate
what they can to help.
