CHATHAM GAS CLOSED - The BP gas
station at Route 4/Walnut, known as
Chatham Gas or K&S Fuel Mart, has been
closed for over a week.  According to the
Illinois Liquor Control Commission, the
business had its liquor license revoked on
Oct. 30, 2009, for failing to pay a $3,000 fine
imposed for a second violation for selling
alcohol to a minor.  K&S Fuel Mart was cited
for selling alcohol to a minor on Dec. 17,
2008, and Jan. 22, 2009, and a hearing
before the ILCC was held Aug. 12, 2009,
where the fine was imposed.  According to
Sue Hofer, spokesperson for the ILCC, the
business could apply to have its liquor
license reinstated, but certain steps would
have to be followed and explanations given.
It is not known why the business is closed,
for it could continue to operate without a
liquor license.  Bags have been put over the
gas pumps, though the electronic sign is still
working and some folks who did not know
the store was closed have been seen trying
to pump gas.  Records at the ILCC list Mir
Khan as the business owner.  Village of
Chatham officials have not been contacted
about the situation.  The business formerly
operated as a Huck's convenience store until
2007.
