WATER MAIN BREAK - A water main break
last Friday afternoon forced traffic to be
squeezed to two lanes on Route 4 near the
Walnut intersection.  Arctic temperatures,
thick asphalt and water pressure issues all
hampered Village of Chatham crews as they
tried to fix the break.  Water was pouring out
of the break area for several hours and into
the Main Plaza parking lot.  Workers were on
site for some six hours before getting the
situation under control.  The break occurred
just north of the Walnut intersection on Route
4, at the entrance to the now-closed BP gas
station.  Village Manager Del McCord said
there were some issues with getting a
proper-sized repair sleeve over the affected
area before crews could fix the break.
