Memorial Award winner prior to Friday’s

Night. Head coach Dan Rourke made
the presentation. The award is
presented to the senior football player
who exhibits the following criteria:

achievement, pride in self and school,
consideration of others, service to
school and community, loyalty and love
of life.

The team that came within five points of coming into Chatham with an 8-0 record and Western
Big Six Conference title was absolutely no match for the Central State Eight Conference

REGIONAL CHAMPS! - The Glenwood High
School volleyball team captured the Class 3A
SHG Regional title last Saturday with a
25-19, 25-15 victory over Springfield High.

claiming victory in 3:53.07. Team members

McEvoy and Haley Lanser. The Titans
finished first in six events, and took second
place as a team to SHG.

FIREFIGHTER PROMOTION - The Chatham
Fire Department promoted five probationary
firefighters at a pinning ceremony held last
Wednesday night. All five now have hold full
firefighter/EMT status. From the left are: Bob
Bose, James Follis, Jeremy Jacobs, Kyle
Enstrom and Tom Wilson. Bose, Follis and
Jacobs are now full-time firefighters with the
CFD, while Enstrom and Wilson are each
volunteer firefighters.
The Kiwanis Club of Chatham inducted eight
new members last Wednesday night as part
of special ceremonies that included Kiwanis
International President Paul Palazzolo and
Illinois-Eastern Iowa District Governor Kevin
McConnell, along with new Chatham Kiwanis
Club President Norm Smith. From the left

Kiwanis induct 8
At the stroke of midnight late last Wednesday night,
the Kiwanis Club of Chatham inducted eight new
members as part of special ceremonies conducted at
the Chatham Area Public Library. (more)
Construction continues along a stretch of
Walnut Street east of Route 4, with things a
major mess in front of the Chatham Post
Office this week. The project remains on
schedule to be completed by the first or
second week in November, village officials
have been told.

STATE BOUND! - Four Glenwood High School
girls swimming team members will be
heading north this weekend to New Trier High
School for the IHSA State Swimming and
Diving Meet. The foursome of (l-r): Haley
Lanser, Katie McEvoy, Lindsey Rayhill and
Marissa Stafford had a banner day at Saturday’
s Springfield Sectional at Eisenhower Pool,
qualifying for State in the 200 medley and 400
freestyle relays, setting school records in both
events. In addition, Rayhill qualified in the 500

New-look girls

Officer fired

The Chatham Police and Fire Commission
voted last Wednesday night to officially
dismiss officer John Wehmhoff from the
Chatham Police Department. (more)
HOMECOMING KING AND QUEEN -
Seth Wheeler and Kimber McAdams
were crowned as the 2009 Glenwood
High School Homecoming King and
Queen prior to Friday’s GHS-
Taylorville football game. Wheeler is
the son of Brad and Tammy Wheeler
of Chatham, and McAdams is the
daughter of Scott and Kathy McAdams
of Chatham.
Work on the final overlay of asphalt on the
Walnut Street project continued in earnest
last Friday. The project is now nearly
complete, with just final striping and
landscaping work to be completed. In
addition to widening the road to three lanes,
sidewalks have been added on both sides of
the street, from Route 4 to East, and
drainage issues have been improved.
