Enrollment numbers up 30
students overall

Enrollment numbers are up at the K-8 level in the Ball-Chatham School
District, while the student population at Glenwood High School is down
78 from last year's sixth-day count. (

Food Drive Aug. 29 for Food Pantry

Due to seasonal heavy need, the Chatham Food Pantry's supplies have
been depleted. In order to re-stock shelves, an emergency Food Drive is
being planned for Saturday, Aug. 29. Canned food, dry food and cash
donations will be accepted at the Chatham Presbyterian Church parking
lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day.  The church is located at 1835 E. Walnut.
New school could cost over
$15 million, close to projections

Glenwood Middle School lost a student to suicide during the 2008-09
school year, and Principal Jill Larson and representatives from the
Lincoln Prairie Behavioral Health Center in Springfield are working to
make students, parents and everyone in the community more aware of
the warning signs involved. (

'Nerds' hit the big time, win MTV
Contest
For 10 recent Glenwood High School graduates, the dream became
reality Sunday night in New York City. (

Ten recent Glenwood High School graduates
took in the sights and sounds of New York
City last week, their trip culminating with an
MTV Video Music Award Sunday for their
efforts on “Nerds in Disguise.”  Matt Hartzler
directed the video, and he and Jake Giganti
co-produced it.  Others taking part in the
video were Mitch Falter, Taylor Blake, Shane
Reynolds, Ben Parks, Charlie Clausner, Mike
Ranos, David O’Brien and Alec Veldhuizen.
NATIONAL MERIT SEMIFINALISTS - Four
seniors at Glenwood High School have been
named as semifinalists in the National Merit
Scholarship Program.  Pictured with GHS
Principal Jim Lee are (l-r): John Hagemann,

Chance.  As juniors, the students took the
2008 Preliminary SAT/National Merit
Scholarship Qualifying Test. The nationwide
pool of semifinalists represents less than
one percent of high school seniors in the
United States.  National Merit Scholarship
awards will be offered in the spring of 2010.
