Cunningham accepts
position in McLean County
Glenwood High School principal Nate Cunningham is leaving the
Ball-Chatham School District and has accepted an assistant
superintendent's position in the McLean County Unit District No. 5.
That district includes 15 elementary schools, three junior high
schools and two high schools - Normal Community and Normal
West. Cunningham has been the principal at GHS for the last six
years. His resignation is expected to be officially accepted at the
school board meeting scheduled for Monday, May 18. Prior to
coming to Ball-Chatham, Cunningham was an assistant principal
in Rantoul. He said he was set to take an assistant
superintendent's post there when then-superintendent Dr. Rich
Voltz convinced him to come to Ball-Chatham.
"I've had a great experience here," Cunningham stated. "I love
Glenwood High School and our community here. This was a
difficult process, and I prayed a lot with my wife and our family. But
this was an opportunity I could not pass up." Cunningham said he
has finished his final class for his doctorate degree, and has
begun the process for his dissertation. Cunningham and his wife,
Carla, are the parents of two children. Trey will graduate from
GHS this year, and Aushlon is a third-grader at Ball Elementary.
•Ball-Chatham Supt. Bob Gillum said the position opening would
be posted internally, and he will talk to the school board about
options for possibly opening up the search to outside candidates.
