The Glenwood High School Scholastic Bowl team whipped
Taylorville and Belleville Althoff Tuesday night to claim the
IHSA Class AA Chatham Regional title, the school's fourth
title in the past five years under head coach Dale Boyd.
The Titans (62-17) were led by Karl Medina, who had 10
tossups over two matches on the evening.  Glenwood, the
No. 2 seed overall out of the O'Fallon Sectional, opened
with a 232-54 rout of Taylorville.
Glenwood then faced No. 7 seed Belleville Althoff in the
regional title match.  The Titans jumped out to an early
lead and were never seriously threatened in a 284-174
victory.  Glenwood advances to play at the O'Fallon
Sectional this Saturday.  Matches begin at 10 a.m.  The
winner there advances to the IHSA State Meet, to be held
Friday, March 20, at the Peoria Civic Center.
•Against Althoff, Glenwood's starting lineup featured
captain Rachel Mittelstaedt, along with Medina, James
Sun, Sam Schwarm and Connor Woods. Early tossup
answers by Mittelstaedt and Medina helped Glenwood to a
43-16 lead, and after the score was tightened to 49-39,
Sun scored two tossups in a row, along with 20 bonus
points scored by the team, to give GHS an 89-39 cushion.
Medina and Mittestaedt again answered tossups to put
Glenwood up 109-44, and the score was 120-82 at halftime.
The Titans stretched the lead to triple digits, as Medina,
Schwarm and Woods moved Glenwood to a commanding
228-101 lead before Boyd subbed in Mike Korte, Thomas
Chance, Aaron Siebrass, Angela Qian and Collin Wilcox
towards the end.  Korte came on to answer two tossups,
while Chance had one. Overall on the evening, Medina had
10 tossups, followed by: Schwarm (4), Mittelstaedt (3),
Korte (3), Woods (2), Sun (2), Siebrass (1), Charlie
