TITANS OF THE WEEK - The Titans of the
Week for the Week of March 2 are the
members of the Chatham Chargers
basketball team that have qualified for the
State Special Olympics competition. They

Glenwood Middle School 8th grade
students Zach St. Clair and
Aishwarya Pastapur have advanced
to the Regional Spelling Bee. They
qualified from the County Spelling
Bee held recently in Pawnee. The
Regional Bee will be held March 21
at Springfield Christian School,
starting at 9 a.m.
REGIONAL CHAMPS! - The Glenwood High
School Scholastic Bowl team captured the
IHSA Class AA Chatham Regional title
Tuesday night, defeating Belleville Althoff

Candidate forum at Library
March 18
The Chatham Area Chamber of Commerce and Chatham Area
Public Library will co-host a Candidate Forum Wednesday,
March 18, at 6:30 p.m. at the Library. Library trustee
candidates who are running unopposed will be introduced and
give a brief statement. Candidates for the Village of Chatham
Mayor and Trustee positions will have an opportunity to make a
brief statement. Questions will be allowed from the public
through moderator Paula Staab Polk.
There are also presentations planned regarding the
Ball-Chatham School District building referendum.
Refreshments will be served.
Glenwood claims fourth
Scholastic Bowl Regional
title in last five years

The Glenwood High School Scholastic Bowl team whipped
Taylorville and Belleville Althoff Tuesday night to claim the IHSA
Class AA Chatham Regional title, the school's fourth title in the
past five years under head coach Dale Boyd. The Titans (62-17)
were led by Karl Medina, who had 10 tossups over two matches
on the evening. Glenwood, the No. 2 seed overall out of the
O'Fallon Sectional, opened with a 232-54 rout of Taylorville.
Glenwood then faced No. 7 seed Belleville Althoff in the regional
title match. The Titans jumped out to an early lead and were
never seriously threatened in a 284-174 victory. Glenwood
advances to play at the O'Fallon Sectional this Saturday. Matches
begin at 10 a.m. The winner there advances to the IHSA State
Meet, to be held Friday, March 20, at the Peoria Civic Center.
•Against Althoff, Glenwood's starting lineup featured captain
Rachel Mittelstaedt, along with Medina, James Sun, Sam
Schwarm and Connor Woods. Early tossup answers by
Mittelstaedt and Medina helped Glenwood to a 43-16 lead, and
after the score was tightened to 49-39, Sun scored two tossups
in a row, along with 20 bonus points scored by the team, to give
GHS an 89-39 cushion.
Medina and Mittestaedt again answered tossups to put
Glenwood up 109-44, and the score was 120-82 at halftime.
The Titans stretched the lead to triple digits, as Medina, Schwarm
and Woods moved Glenwood to a commanding 228-101 lead
before Boyd subbed in Mike Korte, Thomas Chance, Aaron
Siebrass, Angela Qian and Collin Wilcox towards the end. Korte
came on to answer two tossups, while Chance had one. Overall
on the evening, Medina had 10 tossups, followed by: Schwarm
(4), Mittelstaedt (3), Korte (3), Woods (2), Sun (2), Siebrass (1),
Charlie Clausner (1) and Tom Stone.
Public hearing on
change to parking
ordinance planned

The Village of Chatham will be holding a
public hearing soon regarding proposed
changes to the off-street parking ordinance for
RV's, trailers and campers. (more)
TITANS OF THE WEEK - For the Week of
March 16 at Glenwood High School, the
Titans of the Week are sophomore Lee
Blocks and senior Allison Backus. They are

CONFERENCE CHAMPS - The Glenwood
High School boys swimming team enjoyed a
banner day at the Central State Eight
Conference meet last weekend. The
foursome of (l-r): Tom Deppe, Matt Butler,
Chris Burke and Sam Gill claimed CS8 titles
in the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle
relay. In addition, Gill claimed the 50 freestyle
in 21.61 seconds, setting school and
conference records in the process. The
group's time of 1:44.45 in the medley relay
also set a conference record.
Glenwood's Jason Kemp dominated
Southeast's Johnnie Carter in their title
bout at 103 pounds Saturday, claiming an
18-2 technical fall decision.

Girls snap losing skid,
advance to regional finals

The Glenwood High School girls basketball team shook off a five-game losing skid to end the regular season by
defeating Decatur Eisenhower 57-39 Tuesday night in the semifinals of the Class 3A Taylorville Regional. (more)

District begins negotiations
for school site

With a vote on a school referendum coming in a couple of weeks,
Ball-Chatham School District officials are working daily to secure a
site for the proposed new elementary school. (more)

Work on Gordon Drive could
be partially funded

Some federal stimulus money may yet be available for a proposed
project in the Village of Chatham that would extend South Gordon
Drive to three lanes, from Ramblewood to Hurstbourne. along with
related storm sewer, curb and gutter and box culvert work. (more)
