Ball-Chatham kindergarten registration Feb. 4-5
The Ball-Chatham School District will be holding kindergarten registration for the 2009-2010 school year
Wednesday, Feb. 4, and Thursday, Feb. 5, from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at both Chatham and Ball Elementary
Schools. Please register at the school that your child will be attending. (If you are unsure about this information,
please contact one of the school offices at 483-2411, ext. 501, or 483-2414, ext. 314.) If you live in the Ball-
Chatham School District and have a child (or children) who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2009 please
plan to register. Before entering in the fall, the district will need a copy of your child’s physical/ immunization
record, a certified birth certificate and proof of residency (your tax bill or contract for lease/purchase of your
home, driver’s license and utility bill with current address). If you have any of this information available, please
bring it to registration. It is extremely important to our planning for the next school year to have an accurate count
of kindergarten students, so please help us by registering on the above dates.

Ball Elementary School is celebrating
Abraham Lincoln days this week, in
celebration of Lincoln's 200th birthday. This
past Tuesday, Mary Todd Lincoln (Jane
Lawder) visited with second and third grade
students in the cafeteria, and later she talked
with kindergarten and first grade students.
Activities at Ball began Monday and continue

Harling, Weitzel also school
board candidates
Six local residents have filed as candidates for seats on the
Ball-Chatham Board of Education.Alan Harling (Chatham
Township) and Lisa Weitzel (Woodside) have joined the fray,
along with Rick Carr (Ball), Patrick Hansen (Woodside), Linda
Carter (Ball) and John Kwedar (Woodside). Carr and Hansen are
incumbents.
There are four seats on the Board of Education to be filled. Board
seats are determined by Congressional Townships. Membership
on the Board of Education is restricted to a maximum of three
members from any congressional township. And with those
restrictions in place, that means that no more than two
candidates may be elected from Woodside and no more than
one may be elected from Ball.
So Harling is essentially in and running unopposed, leaving Carr
and Carter battling for one spot from Ball, and Kwedar, Hansen
and Weitzel competing for two spots from Woodside. The
candidates' order on the ballot will be determined by lottery Feb. 2
at 8 a.m. at the District Office. The lottery will be held to determine
the placement of Ball and Woodside Township candidates' order
on the ballot, since candidates from each township were on hand
at 8 a.m. Jan. 20 to file their paperwork. The order of names will
follow the order of receipt within each township. The seats up for
election in 2009 currently belong to: Carr (Ball), Joe Hartzler
(Curran), Hansen (Woodside) and Kathy Lundin (Woodside).
Hartzler and Lundin have decided not to seek re-election. Other
members of the Board of Education not up for election are: Mike
Falter (Woodside), Mark Bartolozzi (Ball) and Jim Neuses (Ball).
