Teachers, board agree on contract
The teachers and the school board agreed recently to a one year contract that grants the teachers a 2.9 percent raise.
Before the raise, Auburn  teacher salaries were in the bottom third of 24 area schools along with Kincaid, Tri-City, Girard,
Northwestern,  Edinburg, Greenview and Morrisonville.
The new contract moves Auburn teachers into the lowest segment of the middle third. A beginning salary now will be $31,326.
Of all Sangamon County schools, all districts except Tri-City, have a higher pay rate for teachers than Auburn. The new contract
narrows the gap between Auburn and other county schools.
Both sides agreed that in the past three years, the length of the last contract, the district lost several first choice teaching
candidates to neighboring districts because of a pay difference of $6,000 to $9,000. They  added that for school districts of
comparable size, Auburn teachers are still the lowest paid.
The district's increase in state aid for this year allowed the  district to increase the salaries. In addition, teachers chose to move
some of the money that was allocated for health insurance benefits into salary.
